Atm I have a 1900xt oc to xtx, and tomorrow Im thinking about buying
HIS 1GB HD2900XT. Basically how much performance will I loose by getting a HD2900XT over a 8800gtx

Also how much of a performance boost will there be from upgrading my x1900xt card to either the HD2900 or 8800card?

What card shall I get bare in mind my sys isnt the top of the range (see in sig)?? If I can get away without buying the 8800gtx, cos money is quite tight atm. The HD2900XT is £270 and the 8800gtx is £306 p&p included

You think I should go for the 8800gtx? Would Crysis beneifit with the 1gb of memory?? Would you think I could run cysis at high detal at 1024 or 1280 with the hd2900xt card?

If it's between the gtx and 1gb xt then defo go for the gtx. At present the 1gb memory version barely performs better than the 512mb version. Gtx is still a MUCH better card (at the moment).

You have to remember that the memory on a card is really just a frame store, you don't need anywhere near 1GB of gfx mem for the resolutions you are talking about.

If you wait a couple of weeks the new edition cards will be out (8800gt,the revised 8800gts and hopefully the 2950pro or xt), and whilst I doubt they will be as good as the GTX, they 'may' be between £100-£150 cheaper than a current gtx making them worthwhile, meaning you can spend money on other areas of your system, or your life ;)

Also if you only have a 19" (1280*1024 max?) then a gtx will not be showing its true potential, and a mid range card would probably be more suitable until you get a higher resolution screen.

It might be worth your while to sell your current TFT, and use the money along with half the money you would have spent of the gtx to buy a higher res TFT instead. The 8800gt and 2950xt I doubt will be slouches, and you'll see better graphics thanks to the higher resolution or possibly widescreen gaming :) I would say that is a better investment and will outlast the gtx you might have bought :)

I dont think I will be be buying a card after all cos of money troubles, but thanks very much for your comments guys. I would sell my lcd but its only worth about £50 now isnt it? and plus when I do upgrade my entire system next yr sometime, I will be using this pc as a 2nd pc, so I will need 2 monitors.

I want to get the sammy 22" lcd, I dont want a 24" or higher cos then that means I will have to upgrade my system more often to cope with the res. Lile at the moment DiRT runs slightly chuggy at 1280x 1024 so im running it at 1024x768.

Edit: The main reason I want a new card, is so I will be alble to run crysis decent detail. Like I upgraded from a fx55 to a opty 185, mainy for crysis, but I think my 1900xt card will be rubbish at crysis?? Dam games..lol

Not true, the memory on the Gfx card stores *lots* of things, also you need ALL the textures on the Gfx card's high speed memory.

ffs i pwnd 880ogtx on 3dmark06 and i bet i pwn them in games to

lol... lets get some benches up Psychas as I think you may be wrong about the game performace of your card vs a gtx.

Best take care of your immediate financial issues Speedy :) Why do you need a 2nd PC though?

Is this another fan boy of ati? Face it. ATI have screwed up the 2900xt's they are trying to keep some control by bringing out a short term "bargin" the 2900 pro. But thats still not much faster then the GTS and your just saving a bit of money. The new GTS's will kick its ass and will probably kick the XT's ass as the XT is beaten in some games by a GTS. The 1gb memory which you wasted your money on for bragging rights is only usefull on a 30" screen. But tbh the card lacks the speed to be worth while buying it for a 30" anyway and you should get a gtx instead :P

Nvida have "pwned" ATI totaly this year and i think its likely they will into the early next year as well unless ATI get a new design for their new cards. Which i dont beleive they are, just higher clocked ones on a smaller die. So they better make them a lot cheaper then Nvida as Nvida have the winning design i think.
