Alternative to BT for line rental?

Yes and they cocked it up by cancelling my account instead of putting it on hold. This is the first time Ive ever moved so didnt know how it worked but rang up and told the guy I was moving and he's done it wrong and because of this Ive lost my number as its been allocated to someone else now.

If I could find another provider I would. Dont see why your being difficult about it?

Ive got my line rental and my broadband from Pipex, took MONTHS(!!!!) to get everything working properly, but now I really couldnt have any complaints about it.
*shes says crossing fingers, toes and eyes, and praying she hasnt just jinxed it*:D

I think with most 'deals' these days the line rental is through BT... the provider that you pay just pays BT. Unless you can get cable in your area (NTHell) and then everything is done through the cable.

I used to be with Pipex, but discontinued the service, because I moved out of the premises and they wouldn't let me take the package I was on with me..was a brilliant offer that they don't have now.

Just to warn you... (will keep my fingers crossed for you that you will never have to find out ;)) but I found the customer services there appalling and was constantly waiting in queues for 20mins at a time (not a bother when most of my calling was done from headset at work ;)) on a premium cost aswell that takes the ****.

Anyway... I cancelled the contract in June 2006 and they owed me line rental money etc because they hadn't stopped charging me... I had to call them 11 times over the last year and finally got my money back last month  so 10mths later...

Good luck! ;)

sky have an LLU at my local exchange, does that mean then that sky can provide my phone line completely independent from BT ?.

Nope - AFAIK, Sky only offer internet access through their LLU. Sky Talk requires that you pay a BT line rental.

Unless you can get cable, Bulldog or TalkTalk (not that I'd recommend either), the best you're going to get is Wholesale Line Rental.
Both LLU and WLR still have a BT element anyway - Openreach controls the copper pair between your house and the exchange.

Please don't get TalkTalk :(
I used to sell it and the amount of problems we had with it was shocking. My silly Aunt signed up for it despite me warning her not to and she's had masses of problems with it.

Nope they actually had to take me off the BT platform and put me on the pipex one, to give me the deal I am getting.
I do agree though their customer service is shocking! I had them on speed dial at one point due to all my problems, and most of the people in the office I knew by name.
