Well, basically haven't really done any form of exercise (bar walking to the station to go to work) for a few years now. Don't really eat that much, but find i can eat a lot when i want to (normally just eat lunch + dinner and skip breakfast on weedays). Have a slim build, am 22, about 5'11" (this feels like i'm writing into some personal ad's section - i assume you need this info?). Have deceided to sign up to a local gym to head to after work maybe 3 times a week.

Now... a few questions...

Running/Rowing etc generally bores me, but this gym has a swimming pool - would i be correct in thinking that swimming would be better for generally building muscles all over my body as opposed to running etc...

If yes, could you potentially become reasonably well built without actually having to do weights? Or am i going to have to start doing those too?

Finally, when you see well-built people in movies or whatever (i'm not talking big arnie in predator...), is that within reach for the average joe? Or does that require a personal trainer, in the gym all day for 5 days a week? (I'm thinking Brad Pitt in fight club...)

Thanks in advance...

...would also like to point out that this is quite possibly the most homosexual post i've ever seen... :p

i'm going to highlight this bit of your post now because if people notice it then you are going to hear their opinions on brad pitt in fight club.

with regards your question, if you like swimming then swim, there is an element of resistance to it and you can get 'fit' solely by swimming.
