So being a mere female who can only think about shoes:D Could someone explain the fascination with watches? surely they only need to tell the time? we have 3 threads running at the moment, all on watches which cost so much more than shoes....?

They last a lot longer than shoes and when you come to sell them, if you pick the right one, can cost more than what you originally paid for.

So in the long term its an investment unlike shoes which just wear down and are thrown away.

its the same as fast cars, why buy a super car for £200,000 when a nissan micra will do the same job in about the same time (traffic, speed laws etc)

there is no logical answer, yes they may be worth more when you come to sell them but thats usually in exceptional circumstances.

its just how it is... guys like watches!

I've no idea what it is with watches. Especially not the vast majority of ones that are showed off on here, they all look awful, in my opinion. Overly complicated, more bells and whistles then you know what to do with and..ridiculously overpriced.

It's like anything though. If people will pay for it, manufacturers will charge it. Mugs if you ask me, but then I spend money on other things.

But who actually buy a watch, and then look at it for 5 years, hope the value will go up and then sell it on?

Don't people just collect them like china dolls? I'd be scared to wear a 5k watch on the wrist and go out of the house. 1 scratch and it'll be very expensive accident.

Surely if you're a woman who can only think about shoes, you can understand a man that only thinks about watches. Same feelings, different material goods.

Yes, I cohere, and what do they give you? I really can't understand. I spend all my money on CDs - occasionally computer parts - and never any on luxury items since I'm not interested.

I don't really have a fascination with watches, haven't worn one for years now, time is accessible on the computer or on my phone (even in meetings )

Still, they are pretty complex pieces of engineering which I do appreciate and can understand why people like to collect them :)

As for women's tastes - no idea, they're just daft :p

I wear all my watches for varous things, I went down the local last night in a 7+ grand watch and have been quad biking across deserts wearing a 2 grand one

they are to be worn, if anything happens to them then the insurance pays up

This is the wost analagy ever. A Nissan Micra will NOT do the same job. The difference between a £50 and a £5000 watch is NOT the same, not anywhere near the same, as the difference between a £5000 and a £50000 car.

But they both tell the time.... maybe the Casio would lose a second's accuracy per month over the other but it's negligible..

Do you have a picture of the watch? Did you wear a gold chain as well? :p

took anew pic just for you seeing as I have put a new strap on it

oh and no I dont own a gold chain

yeah, well if you look at it that simply, then a micra and a zonda are the same. they're both cars and they go along. Think about style, build quality, confidence inspired - that sort of thing. It's why you pay over the odds for luxury items - increased quality, aesthetics etc. If you want a watch just to tell the time, then spend £10

Never had a fascination with watches. I'm sure if i saw a watch I actually liked maybe I would wear one, haven't worn one in my 21 years of life!

Think my biggest issue is I have thin wrists and it would look silly on me!
