DX10 hardware incompatible with DX10.1?

DirectX 10.1 is an incremental update to DirectX 10.0 which will be shipped with, and require, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 in January 2008.[2] DirectX 10.1 will be backwards compatible with DirectX 10.0 hardware, but the new features will not be available until 10.1 compliant hardware is released. The release mainly sets a few more image quality standards for graphics vendors, while giving developers more control over image quality.[3] Features scheduled for DirectX 10.1 include:

Mandatory 32-bit floating point filtering
Mandatory 4x anti-aliasing

bold is me. is it worth waiting until 10.1 to upgrade, given the DX10.1 cards are likely in the next few months?
 
10.1 doesnt have anything special over 10 realy, and games will still be playable on dx10 cards. Personaly i when i get a new pc which i will in a few months, i want it to last me 3-4 years, which is why i plan to wait for the geforce 9 series. But if you get a good 8800 now, even though its not 10.1 itll still last you good while, especialy if you get a gtx or ultra.
 
well given i am slow on the hardware refresh side (having this week upgraded from an 1800 athlon to dual core, i will probably have the gfx xcard in 3/4 years time :p
 
tbh i wouldnt want 4*AA forced on in all games........i think the user should have the option to enable/disable AA and choose how much to enable if he wants it.
 
only 4x AA? the HD2900XT is good enough to do 24x AA with reasonable fps, DX10.1 cards should be good enough to slam it up to 48x AA :p

at the moment no not much really :D PCmark failed to install, may install of 3d mark was corrupt so the only difference so far is Xp64 bit, which is nothing :D

have downloaded new updates of those apps to see what they say, then i'll run memtest on the rig (E2180/2GBDDR2/DS3P).

my current thinking is i am limited by the NVIDIA 128MB PCI-E i got, which was free so i can't complain but still :o
 
Don't forget to go to AMD site and download the drivers to make the dual core run properly in windows.

I noticed a big difference after I did that.
 
only 4x AA? the HD2900XT is good enough to do 24x AA with reasonable fps,

probably in a power point presentation. everything shown about the card so far is that it dies under the use of AA compared to the competition.
however 24xAA is possible with reasonable fps in quake 3.

true, obviously if you tryed 24x AA on lets say.. world in conflict dx10 then you might aswell view screenshots and make a animated GIF :p

but iv tryed oblivion, and i was actually astonished to see that i was getting 25+ fps @ 1680x1050 24xAA :eek:
