I finally got around to playing a sniper last night and managed to have some fun for a few games, however I started getting killed very frequently by an enemy sniper. Obviously a bit annoying but I though fair enough the guy must be very good.

By the time the same sniper had killed me 30 times straight I started wondering what the **** was going on?

So I took a break, had some food n drink and then went back to the game, this time I decided to really take my time and try and get into some great positions and wait it out.

Again I started getting killed by the same guy and the game revealed him as my Nemesis!!!!

When the Kill-Cam zooms in to show the Snipers position he was standing/crouching in an area that was vacant just before the shot was fired, when I say vacant I mean like a 10foot wide space and not something narrow like a door way.

At first I started thinking maybe there was some server side lag and maybe his position was not being updated fast enough client-side but I am using a very fast ADSL2+ connection and have like an 11ms ping, I'm nearly always the first person loaded into a game so its unlikely to be a lag issue?

Another thing that got me was the fact this enemy sniper always seemed to know where I was? I would be crouched in some dark corner peering down my scope with the laser-sight hidden and this sniper would just strafe into my sights and *Bang* I'm dead.

Now as I'm a beginner I'm quite prepared to eat humble pie and admit I have a lot more skill to learn but I'm not a complete stranger to FPS gaming. My system is pretty fast and I'm pulling in a constant 55-60fps (@1920x1200) so I was left wondering what was going on?

Just before I crashed out I did a google search and my heart sunk when I saw the thousands and thousands of results . . .

Once your hack has streamed to the folder, start your game and press INSERT for an in-game menu.

I have also read a few posts here on overclockers about hacking in general and I'm fully aware that a lot of unskilled players will whine and call anyone a hacker thats better than them but I really did try and beat this guy but everytime, *BAM* headshot dead!

Looking at the list of features above it does seem to explain a lot of what I experienced last night!

I'm gonna be playing another 6 hour session tonight (as a Sniper) so I will have another chance to brush up my skills and try and work out if I am facing a Godlike-Sniper or just a cheater using a hack . . . .

You'd be surprised at how easy it is to take out another sniper. You have to remember that when your zoomed you have a tiny scope of vision. I pop out unzoomed and look to see for enemies, if i see any sign i'll then scope them and pop them in a head.

For example on 2 Fort, you know that most snipers will be popping out of either side of the balcony bit and it's easy to predict where they will be and then it's just a case of waiting for them to make a mistake. I'd say at least 50% of my kills as sniper are other snipers. With the other 50% a mix of all the other classes.

CS/tfc/tf2/cs:S/dod/dod:s/ricochet have always been full of hackers. Dont worry about it.

There were always going to be hackers on TF2, since it's basically the same as the other Source games. It's unfortunate. Lets just hope they work on it now they have less to work on.

Sure I understand that, but I'm not talking about me standing in a wide-open exposed place, I'm talking about me being hidden in a confined place where the only way to shoot me is to walk into the area that I am scoping.

So I am looking down my scope at an area about 10 foot wide then *bang* headshot I'm dead, followed by the kill-cam zooming in to show the enemy sniper standing smack-bang in the middle of the area I was aiming at? nothing for him to hide/duck behind etc, almost like he is invisible until he takes his shot?

Hopefully the above diagram illustrates what I am trying to describe.

Maybe you're slightly desynced and hes popping up and back down again before it registers on your screen.

I must admit I've never understood people who will carry on trying something which is obviously not working for them. If I got killed even 5 times in a row by a sniper in the same place I'd do something else, or maybe even go Spy to take them out specifically. I certainly wouldn't keep doing the same thing over and over again which obviously wasn't working.

I played on a server the other day where the top guy on the leaderboard was a sniper (82 odd points iirc) and the reason for this is that there was at least 3 other guys on my team playing as sniper as well, and he just kept killing them over and over.

If something isn't working for you, do something else.. don't wait to get killed 30 times before starting to ask questions, or adapting your play.....

maybe he took the shot and then ran into the center? After all, the killcam isnt instant, it shows the location of the killer a few seconds after the kill, which gives him time to change position.

9/10 its reaction vs latency, the amount of times a bullet enters my skull just as ive fired is unbelievable, and sometimes frustrating

at the end of the day a good sniper can kill someone very quickly and almost always in 1 shot...unless only their leg is visible for some reason

Thats the sorta thing I was thinking, however as stated I normally have the lowest ping in the game?

Well I have been playing the game for nearly a week and have worked my way through all the classes.

Obviously each class has a certain play style and strengths and weaknesses and only by playing can you pick up the necessary skill to make the most of that class so when I started getting taken out on a regular basis I considered it a challenge, what better way to learn how to be a good sniper than to try and take out someone who is miles better than you are, thats how you learn right?

Thats why I stuck with it because I wanted to learn. After a few hours I decided to try another class but the same Sniper kept taking me out, bit of a vendetta going on.

Anyway I just wanted to share my experiences with other players and I will be online gaming again tonight.

Like I say in the thread title, it could be a godlike sniper I met or someone using a hack. Until last night I had assumed that TF2 was hack free but looking at the cheat listed above combined with my experiences last night I can see I am in for a steep learning curve.

What I would really love is to become a really great sniper who can kill people who are using hacks lol! :D

That's interesting if its true?

Haha that made me laugh but you must be good then because at least you get to squeeze the trigger, at the same point as your doing that my brain is just sending a neurosynaptic signal to my finger muscle to press lol! ;)

Shame to hear that the sniper was picking on you. I would've gone Spy and backstabbed him for all the frustration he caused :p

I love playing Sniper though :) Sometimes I get headshots which seem impossible, but I realise it was mostly luck anyways!

You can hit anything around the shoulders upwards and get a headshot. I'll guarantee that sniper was just a good aim, a name would be nice to go with it, its a bit easy to appear godlike in TF2 in its infancy.
