Team Fortress® 2 (TF2) - Godlike Snipers or Hackers?

Sometimes it seems like I get sniped while I'm in a place I couldn't possibly be seen, but I think it's mostly just a combination of me moving just out of cover and a small amount of lag causing it to look like I've moved back into cover on my side while the sniper is slightly behind and able to hit me in that time.
Add on top of that the delay of a couple of seconds for the killcam to zoom to the sniper sometimes it looks like we were both behind a wall. But I doubt it. You can go quite a long way in that (deliberate) time gap
 
I'm not a bad sniper, and I get into some cool sniper battles, but I have found a few players who seem 'unreal'

I'm no n00b either, I've been playing CS since beta and know about lag and player skills. I will soon lose my enthusiasm for TF2 if the hacking becomes more prevalent. Great game, but hackers will ruin it I'm sure, just like BF2 :(

It's not impossible he was a very good Sniper who was just using me as Target practice!

I think his name was something like General_Ho_Johnson, next time I'll take a screenshot.

A little later last night I was playing with a bunch of Russians, and one or two of them were playing Snipers. I hung back to watch them in action (I'm a rOOkie after all) and observed them making some impossible shots.

We were about 300 foot away from a small tunnel-like opening with members of the enemy team passing left and right behind the opening. The Russian Snipers were able to get off killshots on the moving targets as they appeared briefly . . .

The thing that I find amazing about this is you had no idea someone was about to pass from left to right or right to left, but anyone that zipped through this area was promptly killed! :eek:
 
Thing is you will never know online, some will be great some will be kiddy cheaters. It's a shame this is the way online play is, but just take it as good practice - I would.

Hopefully you will get better and better.

quite correct, its like when a scout has just killed you up close, by the time the 'killed by picture' hits your screen he can be far away round a close corner

its very fustrating being out sniped but tbh there are not that many great places to snipe from on most of the maps, which is a good thing as you dont get many campers ... ive had some great sniping battles sometimes unable to get a shot off before 'pop'

there will be hackers and for now its going to be hard to tell but hopefully VAC will catch them up , sooner rather than later ... just change servers and keep the fun
 
Thats why i stopped playing CS, was at a TBM lan party in bridlington and there was a few admins from jolt i believe. You wouldnt believe the blatent cheating that was caught on video.

shame really, cheating ruins loads of online games. Although some people are just good, been accused of cheating in JO a lot and DOD, but i was just good :)
 
I used to be a rail god in the times of Q3A but I've started to hone my skills as a sniper in TF2, currently my best round is 22 kills without dying once and nearly 7k of damage which is ridiculously high.

I've been called a 'hax0r' on servers but to be honest with you, I'm just pretty good with rail like weapons and quick to react to movement... I actually wouldn't know the first thing about cheating or attempting to cheat.

Doesn't mean there aren't VAC secured servers out there that are harboring the odd cheating git, however just remember there are a few skilled sniper 'pilots' out there. :)
 
solution - go Pyro and annoy the crap out of him! Pyro's are THE anti sniper class. Leg it into the enemy base, up to the balcony and stand outside the spawn doors, flame anything that comes out, simple. I've killed countless snipers on the 2fort balcony like this.
 
Why dont you switch over to their team or spectate. Then you an see what they are seeing and check it all adds up.
 
I have been popped by snipers, and they are some times dead, on the kill cam.

But I have also killed a lot with being a sniper. You need to find some servers that have good people playing on them.

I wish I knew some.

But some times its all about luck aswell who pushes the mouse button First.

ButIm liking TF2, Im glad I never sold the Black Box in the end.

If any one wants to add Clairvoyant as a Friend Please do.
 
I was just playing earlier on, hadn't played in a while, joined sniper class got a few headshots, racked up 22 kills and 0 deaths and got accused of cheating. But I must admit, of all the servers I had played, that was a fairly easy one.

Either I was lucky, or good for that moment.
 
Dunno about anyone else, but when I'm in the zone I'm pretty unstoppable as the sniper on TF2. Was in CS, UT, and with the rail gun in quake.
 
I do find though that several 24 player TF2 servers have slight desync issues. Really annoying when it comes to snipers/turrets though as it usually means automatic death :(

Yup, spec mode is the first thing you should be thinking of if it's really bothering you.

Whenever I play cs:source and I think someone might be hacking, I ALWAYS check in spectator mode to see them playing first before I say anything. There's nothing more annoying than somebody accusing somebody else of cheating without even bothering to check in spec mode. Not only is it jumping to conclusions, but if you accuse them and THEN check in spec mode, they can just turn off their hacks, so you may never really know for sure.
 
2fort sniper battles are the suck. Contribute sod all to the team and need a good kicking. I RJ up there and blow them off the deck until they get annoyed and change class. Either that or I'll stab them. Don't get me wrong, I love snipers - used to be a top one in tfc but sniper 'wars' on 2forts drive me nuts.

I'm saddened to see that hacks list too. Didn't expect it happening so soon :(
