PS3 a week on....

No real gamer could do without the 360, those that ain't got one or pick a PS3 over it really are not gamers at all and are just buying a brand name.

Why do you have to do it, Is it some sort of illness?

The first part, No real gamer could do without a 360, Thats fine. but then you go on to spurt crap.

The interesting thing about the 360 failure rate, most people who have had theirs fail get it replaced and continue playing it because of the strength of its titles. Very few people I know got rid of their Xbox360 after a failure.

Yeah the games on the 360 are fantastic, And worth the wait. But if I buy myself the PS3, I know I have loads of titles I'm just itching to complete, And maybe during that time, I'll be able to go out and spend money on a new revised 360, AND THEN also have a massive catalogue of 360 games to complete. If I'm honest, the only game I'm missing out on at the moment is Halo 3 Online, because I'm not allowed to play on my friends gamer ID cos I suck big time. I am also going to be missing Mass Effect which is the biggest game released for some time I'm sure, And that's on either console. I really do want a 360, It's not like a case of "eugh, 360 reliability sucks, I will never own one" Every time I'm in a shop, I pick up a 360 and involuntarily edge towards the counter. It's more a case of, I don't want to buy one now, and then a refreshed 360 comes out, cos if my 360 died, I'd be really annoyed and i'd want to pay out again for the new version.

Ridge Racer 7 was a selling point? Virtua Fighter 5 is also better on 360.
Personally I've never seen reliability as a major selling point of consoles. They are all pretty much the same, I've had many consoles fail in the past and it's easy enough to get them fixed.

I happen to like RR7, so shoot me! And VF5 is perfectly fine on the PS3 looks like the dogs ******** to me! And on the note of getting them fixed, why do i have to put up with that?

As for Blu-Ray winning the war... I don't know. Without the PS3 would Blu-Ray players have sold as many numbers? I believe PS3's stand as the massive unit of BR players in homes. Before the PS3 it didn't do as well, where as HD-DVD primarily sell as seperate users. Personally I can't see either winning, I think they'll live side by side and also alongside standard DVD.

Ok go to any HMV and stand around the Hi-Def section for a bit, you quickly realise that the number of titles on blue-ray outnumber HD-DVD by 2:1, also loads of people pick up blue-ray disc looking at them and taking them to the counter to buy, not once did i see a HD-DVD disc even get picked up. At least at at HMV (the few i've been to in london) blue-rays are selling HD-DVD's are not. And that is where Joe Public will shop, not like us geeks that buy over the internet

If reliability was an issue for me, then my history of Sony consoles would mean I wouldn't have gone near the PS3, but it doesn't bother me. I know if I want to play the best games I need the Xbox360. If I want to play Gran Turismo, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Metal Gear Solid I'll need a PS3 and Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy and Zelda I need a Wii.

Over the years i've bought a few Sony products mixed in with others, i have noticed that the Sony products tend to be robust and relaible, not a single thing has gone wrong with anything Sony i have bought, to the point were i was waiting for my DVD player to break so i had an excuse to buy a next gen console. 7 years later my parents have it under there TV and it still working perfectly, my sony amp is still going strong after 7 years (both used almost every day) and i have a radio alarm clock that's still bloody round 20years later (it been dropped from bed side table a dozen times as well!)

Haha, He's Japanese. He has a meticulous way of doing things. That said, We only had the game for about a week before his latest console had to go back, So chances are he just had new toy syndrome, and didnt want to share I get like that.

So I got them all.

To be fair it seems to me like people who where interested in HD-DVD started with the X360 drive for the most part and then moved onto stand alone (as I did also) its a very common process as the MS drive has been the cheapest option for quite some time (even though you quickly find out its foibles etc)

The PS3 is still thought of as the best BR player on the market in general terms

Whether thats good or bad for either side can be seen either way I guess.

Also BR on a world wide scale didnt actually get released until the March release in Europe of the PS3, so its not really surprising it didnt do so well prior to this - is it? There were players and recorders in Japan since around end of 05 I think but nothing much was released outside until much much later - as far as I have found out anyway.

HD-DVD wasnt out that much earlier over here (yes I agree it had been out in the US a little while - I think prior to Xmas 06) but sales where relatively woeful

Im not trying to dis HD-DVd, or play up the BR, but HD-DVD was released to the US (who you would expect to be a huge supporter with their more common love for larger displays) prio and yet made little headway.

History counts for nothing at this point - it could easily go either way

Absolutely. All I was saying is that if you discounted HD-DVD/Blu-Ray hardware sales from consoles (Xbox360 and PS3) then I'm not entirely sure how well the hardware for either is selling.

I'm not entirely bothered who wins, if Blu-Ray wins the first thing I'll do is rush out and buy a HD-DVD player and snap up films on the cheap, if HD-DVD wins I'll get a HD-DVD player and snap up Blu-Rays on the cheap (I already have a BR player ) and then buy future HD-DVD's. As it stands, I don't see why the market won't accept DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray all as legitimate formats. We don't accept one console as the market leader, why should we only allow one movie format?

Either way, it's win-win for the public.
