Bet you didn't see this coming. We certainly didn't (that's sarcasm, by the way). SCEA have now confirmed that the 40GB PS3 will be coming to America for only $400 on November the 2nd. Not only that, but the 80GB model with have its price slashed from $600 to $500.

Of course, the 40GB will "suffer" the same "drawbacks" as it does in Europe and Japan. Namely, a lack of backwards compatability, fewer USB ports and no memory card readers. Expect a surge in the sales of the 80GB system. We're just confused as to why Sony is waiting until November 2nd to get this launched. It's almost been out for a week over in Europe.

The day I leave for America, brilliant the price drop is immediate.

So roughly £240 for the 80GB and a game or two, not bad. :D

once all the Europeans over have brought the 60gig with Sony saying the 40gig will be the only console available after the 60gig is gone to drive up sales and create demand due to removed HW.

You know its just gonna happen, lol

You would have been working on 2.0341 or there about this is for trading or exchanging a massive amounts. not for general use, you will be getting around 1.93-1.94 at a guess.

Remember to add your sales tax sirrrr and to declare your purchase during customs UK re-entry.

Honestly id stick to a UK deal because the savings imo isnt worth the warrenty your losing.
As mentioned before unless of course your a heavy Blu Ray buyer and want the best selection when available.

Also we have no way of knowing with a future firmware update if the USA system will have issues in the UK and PSN.
Lets be honest Sopy isnt the keenest to let their products ship out to different terrirtories

That's not what Barclays Bank gave me two days ago ;) 2.0341 is way nearer the mark.

Well I don't know I used the same converter for when I got my iPod from Best Buy and the price was the same, fingers crossed? :p

Latte well I've bought large products from the US before that costed more than the PS3 so it should be fine. Plan to put fingerprints all over it to look secondhand and dispose of the box and receipt, should be alright. Warranty doesn't bother me got that all sorted. :) Also taking a UK kettle plug to make it look like I bought it from home, I doubt it'll even get a second look though.

No need for all that, I bought one over from the Middle East, sealed inbox. If you do get stopped, "It was gifted to me". I'v been bringing electronics over from abroad for years, never have I had a problem.

Oh right so is that all you have to say? Or do I need to go through any other procedures? :)

I know people who have tried the gift route and been pulled up.

Frankly it depends on the customs bloke you get and his mood. BUT most of the time they dont even look these days the system is a joke.
Local sales tax in the states vaires allot but aroud 10% should cover it. (think its about 7-8 in NY and higher is some other places).

Power cables are gonna be wrong (is the PS3 a weird cable or a standard one) and I assume the PSU is built in so is it 240v compliant?

Biggest problem is if you have a problem (no 360 remarks please but ps3s are like anything else and they do break). Will Sony cover it in the UK?

The PS3 has a standard kettle plug cable (you know the cables PC power supplies use)

Universal PSU too so the PS3 works in all regions, the warranty won't work in the UK but I have an idea for that anyway so that's no problem. :)
