Unsexy instruments

It's a cool instrument, but it's not very sexy, is it. I doubt whether anyone could woo a woman with the twangy bouncing of that thing.

Mind you, takes all sorts.

Therion fan?

As for the sitar, it's a very unwieldy instrument but I love the sound of it. Not really very sexy though.

Behold the might of... the Serpent:

Heh the guy who invented that lives up the road from me

(The 'cool' emoticon probably wasn't the right one to use there... :( )

EDIT: That Theremin video is awesome. It's so hard to play one of those, on my keyboard there's something called a D-Beam which is basically a theremin but instead of a metal rod it's an infra red beam. They're great for working on your sense of pitch, a bit like a fretless instrument I suppose.

I reckon a drum kit can be kinda sexy ;) . I put snare drum because on it's own it isn't especially, but you can play some really smooth jazzy rhythms with a kit and the sound with brushes is pretty lush

Yes, that theremin guy is amazing. What he's doing is seriously difficult since you have absolutely no feedback except what you hear; no he isn't holding onto anything. Your hands alter the capacitace surrounding the antenna which alters the frequency of one RF oscillator. That frequency is mixed with the frequency of another RF oscillator and the sum is an audable frequency varied by moving your right hand (its very clever really, in the same way you get a low note by playing two very closely tuned notes). The left hand controls volume.

Anal Speculum.

Failing that a kazoo or a timpany drum. Perhaps a little triangle for fun.

We were just talking at work about instruments which either sound downright unsexy or that it would be hard to play in a titilating way.

So far we've got the basoon, trombone, tuba and accordian. Any more?

I'd disagree with bassoon having known some very good players (including a very attractive one). I'd also disagree with InsomniaCalls Cello suggestion for pretty much the same reasons.

I'll agree with accordion and add the larger end of the brass section (tuba, sousaphone) ... although any brass instrument which you have seen the performer using the spit valve would kinda kill the mood :)

Having played in quite a few orchestras during my school days I would say that you can find attractive players of most instruments (including timpanists danza) ... :)

One of my dreams last night was taking a normal snare drum apart and I was amazed to see it full of electronics and sensors.
I started messing with the wiring and set it on fire.
I then did the same with the cymbal.
I blame the Stoke Beer Festival last night.

One man band.
No body can look good trying to play all that simultaneously.
Plus you have the problem of actually getting to the person if they're obscured by so many instruments.

Unsexy and impractical.
