Lovely Wolver-ampton!
Is it possible to get inner ear phones that give bass AND top end clarity?

I have three sets and each has their merits, but I can't seem to find a set that do what I want.

The standard phones that came with my Vision M are pretty clear but lack and punch. The Creative earbuds (the same as the Sharp ones) I got off ebay have great bass, but vocals and instruments sound woolly. The Skull Candy ear buds give less bass than the Creative phones, but not as much punch, but they do sound ok in the mid/high range.

I hear Shure phones have plasticky cabling that can split after a while.

Am I expecting earbud type phones to do too much? I really don't want over the ear type phones if at all possible - perhaps small on-ear cans would be better?

Any ideas? Ideally wouldn't want to spend much more than about £40

For £40 you are going to struggle to get everything you have asked for. Saying that, the Shure e2c's are very good for that sort of price range. If you want very good performance over the whole range then you're looking to have to spend ~£150.

Really? There's no headphones that do the job, sub, 150?

Seems a few people reckon the E2C's have really bad cable housing that cracks - is this true, is this only true of older Shure phones? Or do they come with a little cable tidy reel?

Those Sony's look ok and I can get them off the 'bay for about a tenner.

No they're not.

Why does everyone assume that cheap means fake? Not everything fits that - yeah, some stuff does, but not all.

Found them for £20 in the UK, and £10 in the States. Seems about right to me - of course with P&P it works out about the same.

sony ex85/ex90's aer both fantastically balanced. dont both with the ex71/ex81, they are over bassy with a shrill topend and no midrange at all.

To beat a pair of ex90's, you'll have to spend closer to £200.

They look nice!

The 85's are about £10-£15 more than the 81's and the 90's are 3x the price of the 81's so i guess they'd have to be better.

I found the 81's do sound a little lively but nothing a little level adjustment can't solve. Don't know if it's just because they're a little sensitive TBH.

For the money and the OP's budget the 85's do look like a good deal.

Do they do an over ear version of the same bud? My 81's are just 71's with that same loop. They're a lot better for listening to music on the go - they never ever come out. :)
