Bit of good news - I've got a job!!

First of all, congrats. mate. Secondly if I ring up and get given "We don't support non recommended products" as helpful support you'll be the first to notice!

I prefer it when they don't support their "non-recommended products" to be honest.

Problem with ADSL line speeds and pipex sent their trained "tech" monkey to come and have a look at our settings. He wanted to see my router's config page, to which I showed him a nice Cisco IOS sh run command, he said he doesn't know DOS :(

Get off my equipment NOW. :(

camels5, thanks for that :) Did you do any breathing exercises before answering a call to help you calm down? I used to work in a pub which involved answering the telephone quite regularly and found that gave me a huge boost in confidence!

I always do breathing exercises before answering the phone. also remember that they are calling you so they have to start the conversation once you have answered which gives you a bit more time. Its great when you realise that you can actually answer their question as well:D

Nice one, congratulations :)
Also commiserations for dealing with TalkTalk :D But hey it's money ;) I managed to sell it for a year without going too insane.

Is it based in Preston? Been a while so I only have vague memories of where all the centres are based.

I do 30 miles each way to work 5 days a week, you get used to it. Petrol costs suck though, although in my case I'm switching to less days but more hours hopefully.

haha, that's awesome! Most of the other candidates were older than me and had quite a few qualifications in IT related subjects but still couldn't complete the practical test that we were asked to complete.

I completed the exercise in under 10 minutes (given time was 30 minutes) and scored 100%. It was a fairly simple exercise too and these guys are supposed to be professionals?!?

I find people are usually very patient and if I do happen to get stuck a quick apology and explanation usually gets a reassuring "take your time" from them. It'd be interesting to see how it works the other way around though when the guy at the call centre is having difficulty speaking.

Haly, that's exactly it. It's not an ideal job but the money more than makes up for it! :) And yep, it is in Preston. I saw another OcUKers car in the car park when leaving yesterday. Small world!

Liverpool-Lad, nope, Preston.

Woo, I do remember stuff still from the CPW days :D
I reckon it'll do your confidence the world of good too if you've got problems with a stutter. That and being back in work :)

Congrats mate, can't be nice being without work so I'm guessing your feeling quite a lot of relief more than anything. All the best for the new role hopw it goes well for you. As for the stutter, the main thing is you're not letting it stop you from going for things which I reckon is half the battle!!

Again, cheers for all the kind words guys. Means a lot :)

I couldn't agree more about not letting my stutter stop me from me from applying for jobs. That's pretty much how I got one of my old jobs of working in a pub. Walking from college to my sister's flat and I saw it advertised in the window.

I thought "Why the hell not" and went for it. Did me the world of good and seriously improved my confidence. Loved that job actually!

Not sure of her surname, but Kate something. Only a young girl.

There were 4 other assessors who were just monitoring but I didn't catch their names. They were team leaders or other departments.

Congrats mate, I also got my self a job this week I see it as the biggest turning point in my life!

Congrats to evry1 gettin jobs this week.

congrats on the job andy,

A couple of the lads in the SD at work have stutters, abit quite mild ones... it only becomes an issue when they get nervous or so such... not sure what triggers yours, but they cope just fine
