Thinking of getting a 360. will I be able to play it on my 19" pc monitor? or does it depend on right cables/adaptors etc? any help most appreciated :)

ok thanks, Also my monitor doesn't have inbuilt speakers (just thought of this) so how will I get sound?

Not straight out of the box, you will need a VGA lead, the Microsoft vga cable is good.
You will also need a Y connector for the sound. (2 RCA into 1 mini pin).

I've got the set of pc speakers I usually use for my PC? :) don't mind having to swap some connections over unitl I get a more permanent solution sorted.

is that the cable I'm after? Xbox 360™ VGA HD AV Cable

That's the right cable. It comes with a little adapter so you can either join your monitor's VGA cable to the MS VGA cable if necessary. Otherwise you just plug the MS VGA cable straight into your monitor.

What is the cable of your speakers like? Is it a 3.5mm jack? You will need an adapter to connect sound like this -

And then one of these to join the two 3.5mm jacks together -

Any HiFi with an "auxiliary" input with the two RCA phono connectors for left+right stereo audio would do.

You could put the speaker cable into the the line in on your PC sound card and the sound will come through that, means you need the pc on when playing 360 tho if that aint a problem.

think I just have onboard sound as opposed to a sound card :/ does that mean I won't be able to do that?

Will probably still have a line in even with onboard sound, have a look round the back and see if you have more input jacks where your speakers are plugged in, think the line in is normally colour coded blue.

That's what I used to do before I got a monitor with inbuilt speakers, worked fine :)
