Cat food question..

Hi guys, Is is safe to let cats eat prawns and other seafoods? My cat loves them but my mate thinks its bad for them

Whats do you lot think?

As long as it's not an everyday meal then it should be no problem. Once in a while can't hurt.

i let ours eat whatever it wants

dont see how it can harm them , a vet would probbaly tell you it will wreck its teeth but they just want you to pay them for teeth cleaning...

Cats love fish. Hell, Tuna is a major part of most cat-food flavours and the posher ones have prawns in.

Of course it's OK! Ours used to chow down on lightly steamed trout all the time, amongst other things like prawns, tuna and sardines. Not just seafood either, beef, pork, chicken, duck and whatever else was put in front of him.

I know it is bad to feed cats a lot of tuna, but I can't remember why. It's ok in moderation, and if you're going to give it to them, make sure it's tuna in water. I believe it's also addictive, so if you constantly feed a cat tuna, it may stop eating normal food.

Both our cats love them but they are sick after consuming them. Even after a good smell for one of them causes her to be sick.

Yeh my cat has eaten a plate of tuna in the past and just spued it back up 10 mins later

My cat used to have ham from packets quite frequently until his pancreas went boom, now he has white fish twice a day and is so much better for it.

It really dos depend on what seafood it is, there's bad seafood and healthy seafood.

I'll never give her tomatoes though because afaik cats are allergic to them.

My x's grandma used give her cat warm food, loved it too.

edit - warm as in microwaved meat/seafoods

for canned tuna it's good practice to put in a sieve and run under a tap to flush out the salt content

yep i will also very lightly microwave food from the fridge.....my cat much prefers warm food this time of year

my cat likes any meat, i give it some roast beef tonight.

it goes mad for chicken mostly, and pork, it eats fish but doesnt go crazy for some. beef is its 3rd favourite its allways meowing for that too lol

I used to have a cat that ate naan bread. He also once took a pork pie from the fridge. Seafood should be fine.
