Been after a diesel for a while as my drive to work was starting to burn a hole in my pocket..

Picked up this midweek - MG ZS TD+ (115)

Paid £4900 (slightly over the book price) from a SEAT main dealer but got 6mths warranty and 12mths TAX thrown in. 33k on the clock with FSH. Been after one for a while but most I found were either the lower 101 BHP model or didn't have the + (plus) kit.

Nice  Glad you got one with the Straights... those cars NEED them.

The L series can be tuned quite nicely for an old lump. 140bhp is easily obtained. Check out Rovertech or MG-Rover.org for more info.

looking at one of these myself or the 45 version, yours looks very nice. i would be interested to know your views on what its like after you have ran it for a few weeks plz

Lot of diesel hatch that for the money. I payed £1100 more for a Focus with higher milage and the same bhp :(

Out of curiosity considering you got the car from a SEAT dealer why didn't you pick up a Leon?

EDIT: Or considering the MG is a saloon why not a toledo (leon with a saloon boot)

is that a BM lump?

Fortunately not. This is a solid, reliable bit of engineering that will very likely still be running on it's original fuel system in 200,000 miles time as long as it's serviced regularly. If it was the BMW unit it would probably be on it's third or fourth set of injectors by then.

There is nothing wrong with the injectors in the M47 2 litre diesel and there is nothing wrong with the injectors in ANY BMW diesel which would require replacement every 50k miles as you seem to imply. The M47's weakness is that it blows turbo's and would be unlikely to reach 200k on its original turbo.

But of course, as a tradeoff, it won't sound like a 1980's minicab - the L Series is, whilst very reliable, also absolutely ancient. To pay £5k for a car with one in is quite ridiculous when there are so many Rover 400's for a grand stuffed with the same engine. Infact, the same car minus all the tat and the shiney paint job.

never had to change a turbo on one yet, had to replace literally dozens of injectors on those BMW lumps though, a pain* to get out some of them.

*you shouldnt crank the engine over to shift them but it has been known to work on occasion.
