Hi there, ive got this soundcard - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-049-CL

And ive got a medusa 5.1 pro gamer headset.

Im trying to connect the leads together but its not colour coded and dunno which lead goes where, so thought id get some help here.

My soundcard has 4 slots - orange | green | dark blue | light blue (possibly grey but its hard to tell)

My headset has 4 leads also - orange | green | pink | black

Ive tried connecting the green and orange together, then swapping the pink and black but no sound comes out at all. Im so confused.

Thanks

no i havent, cause that will take ages, just thought someone may have the same soundcard or similar and would know exactly where everything goes, but I have tried several combinations and failed. Ill keep trying.

Ive put my pink (headphone) in the correct slot as my mic is picking up, and i know its the correct slot cause ive tried all the other three. So i start next with the green cable, try putting it into all 3 slots and no sound comes out of any of them?

Just seen above pic, ill try that
thanks

Im stuck still, i either manager to get the centre and the mic working, or the rear and the mic working, its just not adding up. The software that comes with the soundcard is terrible. What i think it could be is that my soundcard software is saying ive got 5.1 speakers plugged in whilst windows is saying 7.1, how can i check if vista is overriding it?

After plugging in the green and pink you only have 2 leads left. Only two possible choices then. Can't be that difficult. That and use of the manuals, help file and online knowledge base should fix your problem.

Looking at the picture I posted earlier, these headphones have a USB plug. So is at least part of the headphjones/Mic run from the USB port and therefore it installs a second USB based sound control?

Ive taken everything out, and started again.

I start with the pink lead (MIC), i try it in all availble slots, only 1 slot out of the 4 works which must mean im in the correct slot.

I then go onto the black lead (REAR), i try it in each of the 3 remaining slots, again only 1 slots work - I then am able to test my mic - which is working fine.

So ive got my green and orange leeds left, and on my soundcard i have a green and orange socket. I try it with both combinations, but sound fails to come out at all except in the rear of my headphones.

My front and sub works fine when i take the soundcard out and use onboard so it must be the soundcard?

Thanks

It could be the soundcard but on the list of things that cause problems with computers, software & incorrect configuration is at the top and hardware is at the bottom. I know vista has extra control over the sound system, make sure all the 5.1 speaker settings are correct and that the driver is functioning (and the latest version).

Most computer peripherals follow the PC99 colour coding scheme. But some manufacturers (like creative) choose not to follow it and just stick metal connectors on with an obscure icon (my original Audigy).

Bit of a shame you never mentioned that your headphone lead was totally ****** when you first posted ! Like banging your head against a brick wall.

Do you have any techniques to stop them from tangling up?

Whenever I wear my headphones it never tangles like that. I don't know what you are doing when playing games?. If the headphones are plugged in all the time then I can see how they could end up that way though.

I have a hook I've attached on the wall next to my desk and just hang them up after use. Even if plugged in for a few days I've never seen my wires end up in knots. Maybe just unplug them now and again so they don't turn into spaghetti.

You should get a new set though as they seem knackered.
