ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series Specs, Photos and Logos

Id rather have got a GTS and overclocked it to the speed of a GTX which is quite possible as they overclock well. Or waited for the new GTS and overclocked it even further then a stock GTX and with the added streme processors it would be almost as powerful as a GTX.

Yeah was going to wait for the 8800GT but wanted something asap so thought I'd give the Pro a chance. Good card but damn it's loud!

LMAO at this guy, one minute he has the biggest stiffy on these forums for ATI, the next hes begrudging them a new logo design and all with that godawful sig, how ironic and a little embarrasing. Of course there is a lot that can predict the future on here and how these cards will perform with a fresh set of drivers, all of them own nvidia cards by the way.;)

yup, not really sure why tom's done a complete 180 all of a sudden, or(as i missed the actual post and not the quote and other threads maybe) he's being sarcastic. kinda guessing maybe someone isn't part of driver beta testing anymore :p

fact is, for gaining market share, i'll say it again, ATI have been gaining market share with the hd2000 series. because all but the high end is regarded as massively better than nvidia's offering. winning dell contracts for most low and mid end systems, and dell shifting from majority nvidia to majority ati means a massive win for ati this round that nvidia people simply can't accept.

Think it's the R700 series that is rumoured to feature the on die RAM for "free" 4xAA, it's not a feature on R6xx.

Jokester

this is the thing though, its been said for a while that dx10.1 has the 4xaa as a required feature.

my theory would be that r600 was always designed for 60nm, tranny count, powerwise, and had it been on a far smaller process, it would have had plenty of space for the edram on die, which would make it extremely, incredibly similar to a higher stream processor count xbox 360 gpu. the plant, tcms, tmcs, tmsc(its one of those, i think :p ) was supposed to ahve 60nm process going late last year but they had poor yeilds and didn't switch. so maybe the delay was ditching the edram, which would take some doing, and getting it to work on a 90nm process.

which if dx10.1 does require the edram, and the new card has it, would kinda answer when the 2900xt isn't great at AA, would answer the delay, the power consumption, and the new name, the drop in mem bus(if aa is done on die, that removes a massive amount of requirement for bandwidth remember ;) ). if the dx10.1 was a minor upgrade, it doesn't make sense that the nvidia cards won't add the minor parts in.

DX10.1 doesn't add that much to DX10:-

* TextureCube Arrays which are dynamically indexable in shader code.
* An updated shader model (shader model 4.1).
* The ability to select the MSAA sample pattern for a resource from a palette of patterns, and retrieve the corresponding sample positions.
* The ability to render to block-compressed textures.
* More flexibility with respect to copying of resources.
* Support for blending on all unorm and snorm formats.

Im offering a two sided view, having owned various different bits of kit from both sides :D.

;)

obviously some minor changes to the silicon to be ablke to be 10.1 accredited - while it is possible they also found and fixed some of the suprisingly poor performance vs specs of the 600 I wont hold my breath.

Funny how raven mentions having wood over hardware. whilst this might be a "normal" thing for him. I'd certainly worry for my state of mind if I found hardware attractive :D

Also very ironic you talk of me favouring ATi hardware since that is ALL you do. At least I'm offering a two sided view having owned a ton of hardware from both sides. Hey it's good to change sides every now and then, right?

i dont think ive seen phyco or what ever his name is pop his head in to say hi with his stupidly over the top fanboy behavour for his 2900xt 1gb. Acording to him every other card gets "pwned" by it.

Yet hes not come to say hello awww lol.
