Where can i buy some? Want to get new ones for the car, front and back. These ones look a little worn.

Do they come with the little round things that (I presume) cover the screws that hold the plate in place?

Short n simple..but hope someone can help.

Local factors can usually make you some up (if they have the licence and equipment to do so). I think you'll need to take your log book and driving licence in as proof it's your car. They don't normally come with the screw caps. :)

BE CAREFUL GUYS.

From the 1st of October 2007, THE LAW CHANGED.

If your car was registered 1st September 2001 or later, your plates MUST conform to this:

The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)
The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plates.)
The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)
A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions.
There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

If they dont, your car will FAIL the MOT.

Yes, it's ridiculous. If your plates are perfectly legal BUT missing the pathetic, pointless text 'BS AU 145d' you will STILL FAIL the MOT if your car is a 51 plate or newer.

Most of the cool plates don't have this on them. I know the plates on my Mondeo don't - good job its a V reg or it'd fail the MOT.

So effectively, don't use Fancyplates or anyone other than an official plate supplyer if you've got a 51 plate or newer car.

not at all, ones with St Georges cross on are kinda tacky though, but this is due to the fact these plates are usually worn on cars owned by football hooligans/lager louts/small-time racists. They are legit though, dual purpose plates can show the EU stars logo, union jack or st georges along with the 'GB' tag and afaik this is unchanged with the new law.

That's what i thought. Seem to give older cars a new lease of life... :)

Absolutely, it's amazing how much a nice new set of smart, legal plates can freshen up a cars look. And even more amazing how many people drive around in pristine, polished, modified cars with.... crappy old-style font plates on them, which have let water in and gone all naff.

How ridiculous - they make it almost sound that if your plate hasn't got the BS bit on it then it's not fit to be on the road . More stupid rules set-up by people who really havn't got a clue about cars. For example, you can have airbags not working (although they may change this soon) or no interior heater fan working so the screen mists up/ices over which is dangerous, yet you can't have your ABS light on/flashing, even though all ABS brakes revert back to standard brakes if they stop working!

Don't know what my mate will do if he ever buys a 51 plate motor (he has a C Reg at the minute) - he refuses to have anything but the Reg number on the plate. :p

I agree with a lot of the law - all cars should be forced to display the standard UK font, no stupid Man United crests all over them, etc etc.

But an MOT fail if it doesn't say BS 145AU? Ridiculous.

FWIW, here are my road legal, MOT safe plates. Look how pointless and tiny the BS mark is:

I'll forgive you if you can't even see it.

Pointless laws like this breed lack of respect for the law amongst otherwise law abiding citizens. People are now having to replace otherwise perfectly legal plates becuase they dont have that silly little bit of text on.
