GT 5: Prologue Demo 20th Oct

Cool, Just been playing it back to back with FM2 for some comparo's..

Graphically, it is as expected largely better then FM2, the extra res (even if not full 1080p is evident)
+ Best still shots for photo realism of any game yet
+ Much more colourful track furniture (and loads of it)
+ much better art style, realistic lighting colours, excellent
+ The Higher res shows, (although somethings like track fences are low res)
+ 16 cars on screen at 60fps
+ The best car selection graphics I've ever seen!!!
+ AF filtering it excellent
+ looking around the interior shows promise, some good detail
- Track modelling is low rent, octagonal corners are shocking (This hopefully will improve)
- Camera's are just 'wrong' (I'm sure these will be done)
- Bonnet cam is as rubbish as FM2 (low poly/feature/effects)
- Lighting is a little sterile and reflections are a little limited which makes it look a little false
- Interior view is superb to have, and I've put it down as a +, but the dash textures and minor switchgear, and the high contrast shadows are too artificial.
- grass on the track side and gravel is poor

Physics/AI are obviously arcade in the demo, very much looking forward to the 'simulation' mode in prologue as the demo is just poor

I expected a more 'realistic' graphical ensemble when playing, the lighting is sterile with little reflection effects where it matters, this may improve, but it's not a given.. shame really, a still shot from this looks photo realistic as we all know!..

I'm looking forward to prologue and the final game, I want to see more, just playing one circuit I am sure is not showing it at it's best..

[edit] - just playing it more and more, and updating my comments, overall this game is going to be good, no doubt, it's clear that to get it looking this good smoke and mirrors are being used a lot, but you know what, I don't care, graphically it's a step in the right direction.. if they could amalgamate GT5 and FM2, that would be the next gen game of the century..

Demon, professional/simulation mode is in the demo. It's the second option down from the race start menu. Default is Normal, the second choice is Professional. It makes handling harder and more realistic, but the 'fisicks' are still the same.

I did hear in an interview that you will be able to have to different settings for the physics, i mean a pro version and a normal one, much like the difficulty i guess.

Can we post gifs here? The burnout gif beats all :p

Burnoutcrash.gif

I really enjoyed the demo, it looks incredible.

I was never that huge of a sim racing fan until I really got into PGR3. I got so frustrated that people were bashing into walls and still beating my times. I played Forza on 360 and Live was great fun but the career mode to me was very boring and lacked something.

Can't wait for GT5, as well as Burnout :D

EDIT: As for comparing it to Forza, I think GT5P looks much more realistic. Once we can play the city tracks (hopefully in prologue?) it will blow people away even more.

Interesting thread on neogaf, it shows graphical comparisions between GT5 and Forza 2. The environments are definitely far better on Forza 2 at the very least.

Best quote on that thread

Also, it's obvious that GT5p is a much better game because there are a lot more people in the stands that came to see the show.

made me laugh anyway, both look good imo but in some places forza 2 looks better and in some i prefer GT5 P oh well.

DOH!!!! cheers.. will have a go...

Actually I had accidentally switched this on previously, I thought when I went back to it earlier that it handled a bit better.. but playing FM2 straight after, it's clear that FM2's physics/game engine is pretty good..

I salute PD for their efforts, FM2 is a superb game, the best physics/feel yet (until full gt5 comes out I can't comment), but it's let down by the often odd graphics, I can live with the slight jaggies etc, but I don't understand how some cars can look pretty decent, and some look so flat.. on GT5, the car models are nailed, and the whole 'effect' is there or there abouts..

The main thing holding the demo back from being awesome are the plethora of little graphics foibles, and the physics are not upto par yet.. but there's always time...

I loved the GAF thread.. I think no one can argue GT5 isn't far better looking then FM2 for the large part, but people will always try..

Oh well, this was the game that would make me get a PS3 GT5 Pack but doubt I will now from the reviews, I got a PS2 GT3 ASPEC pack when it came out, GT4 bored me to death.

Very surprising. Though I'd like to see both in motion, I would say Forza 2 blows GT5 away in those screenshots.
Ironically, people said FM2 didn't look very good and was quite 'boring' when that was released.

Not too keen on Forza's colours, look a bit too bright and colourful, almost cartoony?

And the GT5 models really do blow Forza's away.

I'd say all in all both decent enough looking games.

I was watching one of my replays earlier from the GT5P Demo and my mrs at first glance thought I was watching a real race on the TV lol.

In motion GT5 is very impressive, as I've said, for the large part it's better then FM2..

That's not to say FM2 is rubbish, there are elements of FM2 that are better, there are more reflections and effects going on in FM2, in the GT5 Demo when you are side by side with another car and there is plenty of scenery there is a distinct lack of lighting and reflections from the other cars/scenery that just ruins what could be an almost photo realistic experience. That's not to say GT5 doesn't still look excellent.
GT5's track furniture and crowd are obviously where corners have been cut so far, the crowd consists of blocks of 2D people which when flying passed them makes for an odd effect..
Grass is IMO worse then FM2, too few 'tufts in too regular a pattern, shadows passing over this looks very wrong.
The track, on tight corners, especially using bumper cam shows the low poly make up of the track as *** white line takes on a discrete polygon effect.

I played Suzuka back to back between GT5/FM2, and from my much preferred bumper cam view, FM2 is very very impressive, but overall GT5 does look better, as it should..

It's early days for GT5, being only a demo I am sure we can expect more, but considering that GT5 prologue is virtually upon us, I sure hope it's a big step up from the demo in terms of gameplay , audio and the fixing of camera's etc..

I am a little on the fence right now, I guess when we get the option of tuning and more tracks it will be better and I really can't wait to play online against humans instead of A.I. controlled cars.
