I missed the crucial moment! Did Raikkonen overtake/pass Massa, or did Massa let him past?

I suspect the latter which makes an absolutel mockery of the whole thing... So Raikkonen is only the winner because they diddled the results? What if in a previous race Hamilton who was leading let Alonso past (just like Ferrari yesterday)? Then Alonso would be world champion?!

Silly!

ps: I thought 'team orders' are not allowed?

I was under the impression that very early on in the season Alonso had been let through by Hamilton.

Besides, Raikonnen passed Massa during a stop.

yea that is the politically correct way to do it i guess...

bit it would be insane if ferrari were not allowed to let Raikonnen overtake to win the world championship.

It was done during pit stops, Massa came in, Kimi went on for another three laps on the better tyres and past him by the time he'd come in for his stop.

Kimi was just plain faster than Massa all afternoon. I watched the live timings carefully trying to spot Massa having a "problem" and hence a slow lap but it just didn't happen - Kimi was quicker and passed Massa in the pit (as happens too often nowadays  )

He put in the fastest laps of anybody in the whole race the few laps after massa pitted. He passed him because he was faster - nothing else imo

Wouldn't he have to lap about 6-7 secs per lap faster than Massa was if it was just down to speed?:)

why on earth would they NOT let kimi pass Massa? There was no way Massa was going to win the world championship, while Kimi could, and they are on the same team.

Whether he did "let him past" or not with the pit stop, he would have done anyway outside of the pits.

F1 is a team sport.

How can you say that? Massa had qualified faster than him, and was leading the entire race?

I just find it a bit odd that the 'best driver in the world' infact is only crowned as such due to other drivers letting him overtake them, and not by actually winning the points himself...

AGAIN, how long was Massa in the pits for (as I missed it). Did Raikkone actually fairly overtake him, or was the pitstop 'extended'?

I don't know, but that's not my point, F1 is a team sport, not individual. Kimi was about 3 seconds behind Massa when he pitted, then in the next 3 laps he put in the fastest laps of the race.

How could I say he would have let him past outside of the pits? Because he would have. I'm not saying Kimi would have overtaken him, I'm saying Massa would have backed off.

The rules are meant to restrict it but it has been going on for years, and personally I think it makes it more interesting when team strategies are called into play.

Raikkonen passed Massa when Massa pitted. Those who say Kimi didnt do fast laps, if i remember rightly Kimi did the FL with a 1:12.4? Kimi won 6 races all season, and that's because of "people letting him overtake"? Come on, get over it, Britain's new hero didn't win.

And to those who say Massa would have let him past on the track - wrong. If they did this they'd be severely punished, after the fiasco of the Austrian GP 2002 when Barrichello purposely let Schumacher through on the line for title purposes. Since then, any team found to be making blatant team orders would be punished.

However they still happen, what ever excuse is used. Hamilton was told to let Alonso past in a race earlier this year, for example.

Although the ITV commentators seem pretty oblivious to that rule, with their whole "if someone gets taken out now then Alonso will drop back to let Hamilton get 5th" plan.

LOL! No one is talking about 'Britain's new hero' winning here. If you new anything you'd realise if Raikkonen has stayed 2nd Hamilton still wouldn't have won.

Personally, what I'm interested in is:-
a) Did Raikkonen pass Massa fairly (cos I missed that moment), or did Massa let him by. ie: If Massa had continued racing at full speed would he have won instead of coming 2nd. It appears from what people are saying Massa did let Raikkonen by.
b) Given (a) it makes a little bit of a mockery of being work champion for Raikkonen. Where he didn't actually race well enough to win, but had to get another driver to let him over take to manage it.

They're in the same team. Why would Massa let the world championship slip away from his team mate for nothing?
