Ok...

I live JUST across from the railway station and work the other end is about a 15 minute walk uphill.

The train costs £16 a week, the car is around £25ish (160miles per week).

Do I;

A: Catch the train and save on petrol, wear and tear and enjoy the 15 minute ride (instead of 35 in the car) but have a 15 minute walk

or;

B: Take the car, spend more on petrol per week. Wreck the world, drive fast and induce more wear and tear?

What what you do? :p

P.s I caught the train today, feel like I already have a cold and my head is banging!

I'd take the train, how can a train be cheaper than a car though :eek:.

you could always get a pushbike as well. Leave it at the work end. Lock it up at the station.

In that situation I'd take the train. I'm considering takin the train in the new year as well. But my journey is slightly longer so at least I'd have time to actually do something on the train. Also, trains are bad if you sleep in, mmmkay?

Take the car, public transport sucks, FACT!

15 minutes up hill is a long way when it's pouring down with rain and you'll arrive at work soaking then spend half the day just trying to get dry, 15 minutes on a cramped smelly train also isn't fun. You haven't included time wasted by being early/having to wait for the train home in your figures either.

Take the car.

Public transport is a joke always full of people blaring music out at full or some annoying baby screaming their lungs out

Quite easily. Took the train to visit the girlfriend once in the Summer - ticket was £30 (for Plymouth to Worcester), I sat and watched movies on my laptop the whole way there and back, it was very comfortable.

The same 400 mile round trip would have cost £50ish in fuel in the 530i.

Don't tempt me!!

I can get as little as 8-9mpg if I try though :p

I still have to make two trips to my other work place a week so that's another 60 miles then no doubt I'll be going for some nice drives on the weekend!

Hmm, what could I get for £5-6k that would be impractical....:cool:

Take the train!

15 mins walk is good for you. :) Best of the both world for you and your pocket really!

It's true, was a bit out of breath but I was powerwalking up the hill this morning!

I know it makes sense, but then I think... why should I own such a nicer car and not drive it.
