I'm looking for a vidcard to go with the following:

Abit IP-35 matx mobo.
e6300 that does 3ghz easy on stock volts.
2 x 1gb ocuk PC2-6400C memory
zalman cnps9500 cooler.

I'm looking in the range of x1900xt/xtx, etc but what are the newer offerings like, ie: 8500gt/s or 8600gt/s or the newer ati offerings for performance, compatibility, overclockability, etc?
This new card will replace an X800XT btw.
Or is it only really worth going second hand. I want to try and keep the cost to around the £100 mark for the card. Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Or wait one week and have a look at the 8800 GT cards. The 256Mb version will be under £100 and ought to be much quicker than the x1950pro.

The 512Mb version will be around £135 if you can stretch that far.

In theory both ought to be about twice as quick as a x1950pro and 4 times quicker than your x800xt

Oooo....forgot the new ones coming out. Reckon I'll wait and see what they're priced at and should lower the s/h prices as well.:)

Yup 8800 GT is released next Monday the 29th, and will be more than double the performance of the x1950pro, so will totally destroy the x800 by a country mile. :p

Keep the dream alive about the 8800gt i personally will eat my hat if it doesn't sit between an 8600gts and 8800 gtx.

That's a very wide range and hence a very safe bet!:p

I'd put a million quid on that been the result as well. lol

The 8800 GT is a replacement for a 8800 GTS 320Mb so ought to match it. Fact as told by Nvidia. It may even beat it hence nvidia bringing out a new 8800 GTS 640 with same number of stream processors to keep it ahead.

Reports that it will oc to 900Mhz and hence beat a GTX. Guess. But if acheivable, then at 900Mhz it will indeed beat a GTX at stock. Hell a 8800 GTS 640mb does that at between 700 and 750Mhz and the GT has more stream processors.

So it's wait and see really.

Man, there are loads of choices, I can't get my head around them.

Bad time to be buying I guess. In one weeks time we will know whether the GT can oc like a dream and how it performs. Easy then to gues how the revised GTS will perform at the end of November and also the revised GTX when they release that.

Just wait a week and see....
