Hi,

I am running a E6300 on a DS3 with 2 x 1GB Ballistix 800Mhz.

When I run at 4-4-4-12 (2.2v) ,which is stock, I can only get to about 3.1GHz stable.

When I change to 5-5-5-15, I can get up to 3.5GHz.

My question is which is the best in the real world (encoding and games)

4-4-4-12 @ 3.1GHz or 5-5-5-15 @ 3.5GHz?

I'm pretty sure you know what the answers are gonna be here mate.

FRAPS your fave games to get FPS scores on either setting, and encode something to get an idea of performance.

I'm pretty sure that 3.5ghz is gonna get you the win though.

Agreed go for the 3.5ghz. Have you tried upping northbridge volts etc to try get the overclock anyhigher?

or putting the balistixs volts up? But over 2.2v and you should be cooling them.

3.5ghz will wipe the floor with 3.1ghz regardless of what timings you use. Generally speaking I wouldn't sacrifice anything more than 100mhz for tighter timings (at the most).

When you say whipe the floor what is this in? benchmarking? Because benchmarking dont exacly equate to real life. I doubt youll notice much difference in a game.
