STS-120 - Discovery set to launch on 23rd Oct 16:38 BST

Cheers :)

I was in the north of Cuba when the last launch took place, which I thought wasn't that far away, and we couldn't see it.
Just looked and it was ~400km away from there.

:)

Put me down as a definate! :)

Would love to see a launch:(

Something I will never forget! I was at the launch of STS-121! I have the pics to proove it, I was on cocoa beach at the time, got an excellent view from there, was quite strange knowing people all over the world would be tuning in to see what was happening infront of my eyes! The smoke from the thing was incredible and took a good hour after the launch to disperse!

If you ever get the chance take it! Only wish we took our holiday a year later this year too, i only saw STS-120 on its launchpad this year :(

If I've been out (might have happened once), then I'll be time shifting the live stream, so you can bet I've not missed one either. :)

I've been to within 700m of the launch pad (no non-NASA employee/contractor can get closer on pain of being at the wrong end of an angry man with a gun). It's huge even at that distance. Sadly no shuttle was on the pad at the time. :(

5:20 AM Eastern, 10/23/07, Update: Shuttle fueled for launch

The shuttle Discovery's external tank has been loaded with a half-million gallons of liquid oxygen and hydrogen rocket fuel in preparation for launch today at 11:38:22 a.m. on a space station assembly mission.

The three-hour fueling procedure began on time at 2:13 a.m. and ended at 5:12 a.m. There are no technical problems of any significance at pad 39A and the only concern remains the weather, with forecasters calling for a 60 percent chance of clouds and rain that could cause a delay.

Watching it on my TV now via XBMC, I just copied the windows media asx stream file to the xbox and played the file. Streaming straight from the Internet to my TV, great :)

I went to the Cape back in 87, about 18 months after Challenger. Saw the launch pads, the VAB, the crawler, the Saturn V rocket (when it still displayed outdoors) and a dimly remembered iMax Film. Sadly, despite being a space freak, I was too young (12) to really appreciate it at the time. :(

That said I still have my NASA mug and three rather pretty shuttle prints though! :)

I've been You Tubing a lot a shuttle/rocket launches of late, and have also been catching up on how the ISS is progressing. It makes me smile when I feel a little of the childhood excitement returning. I suppose I really should put seeing a proper big rocket launch on my long list of things to do.

Strapping the last person in now as we speak. What happens if you need the loo before takeoff and your strapped in?
