This one seems to have slipped under the radar a bit, it was released 24/09/07, here. I did a search on here but couldn't find a thread relating to it.

Install guide here if you need it. I'll be trying it in about an hour or so.

Also just a note that this is 64 bit ONLY

The drivers have LOTS of issues. So much as sneeze in their vicinity and they probably wont work. You have been warned.

Yeah, I've just discovered that. They suck pretty damn badly. Only app they seem to work fine in is Audacious (that I've tried so far).

Going to try them myself later. However all the threads I have seen on t'internet have all pretty much said "they're crap" :p

It's taken Creative about 2 years to get these drivers out to BETA. Probably be another 2 years before they're any good.

They should just release the engineering specs for the X-Fi and let someone with a clue write drivers.

Talking of two years, I was reading that the gcc version this driver uses is two years old.

It's been suggested that they just released some dodgey two year old drivers they never got round to finishing :(

disgraceful effort after all the waiting, seems to be the creative way.

everyone needs to boycott this company and teach them a lesson about support.

The fact is they do make some of the best sound cards in the world. It is just a shame Linux support seems to be so far down the list of priorities. This is why they should release the hardware specs. There are thousands of Linux users out there who want to use their X-Fi and it would only take just a few of the clever ones to create a decent, working driver.

Its not just Linux that recieves crappy support from them! They havnt even got decent drivers for Vista yet either.

They haven't got Vista drivers!? Bloody hell, a bunch of monkeys could run that company better.

Boss: "Vista is due in 2 years, we have a driver yet?"
Programmer: "Nah. we have loads of time."

[2 years later]

Boss: "Got a driver yet?"
Programmer: "Working on it now boss". [opens Solitaire].

Vista drivers do exist, but they're pretty crap (not as bad as Linux though). I agree they should at least let the community have a go...probably scared they'd be out done by a bunch of volunteers!

I use the Intel sound instead, its pretty good! Intel has optical out too on my mobo.

That's all well and good, but people would prefer to use their X-Fi if they have one, rather than give up on it.

I was considering selling my X-Fi when I found out Linux had now drivers and Linux became my main OS. I then changed my mind when I heard drivers were on their way. Now I am reconsidering selling again.

Thing is, 90% of people run Windows so have no issues. I can understand why Creative aren't putting much effort in, but still you'd think they could manage some drivers that actually worked on a machine other than the obvious piece of crap they developed on :p
