Hi all!

I've been generally out of the hardware scene for about a year and I'm now looking to freshen up my PC with a better card. I currently have a 7800GT, and i'm looking to spend about £80 on the members market for an upgrade. Dual DVI is pretty much a requirement. What level of card should I be looking at?

The main game i'd be playing would be FSX, which my current card struggles with, and a smattering of FEAR and FARCRY. Obviously be nice if I could be edging decent fps on UT3 and Crysis :p

Other PC specs are currently Opty 144, 2gig DDR1, although I may be looking to upgrade them too at some point.

Thanks! Sam

A pretty tricky upgrade point. For just £80 - the best you'll get 2nd hand is a 8600GTS or maybe a 7950gt or a X1950XT.

Although the 7800GT is old - you won't notice a real performance jump until you hit the level of 8800's.

Might be worth waiting to see what the upcoming 8800GT's do to the prices of the 320mb 8800GTS's on the 2nd hand market. Though unlikely they'll crash as low as £80.

You probably know that FSX performance is more dependent on CPU power than graphic card performance. You don't say which processor you use, but I very much doubt that you'll get any noticeable improvement in performance in FSX with an £80 budget for your graphics upgrade.

For FSX a processor upgrade for £80 could give you a much better bang for buck. You post your question without giving any details of your system. What sort of answer do you want?

Thanks - I was hoping after the last 12 months there would be a (relatively) super duper card out there that would wipe the floor - I am open to spending less on gfx and more on cpu if required

8800 GT 256Mb no name branded ought to come in at around £110 inc.

A bit limited with memory but faster than a 8800 GTS (well supposedly ;))

Seen a couple of 7950gt xxx (610/1600) ones go for around £80 recently on mm. Only 40mhz short on the core compared to the 7900gtx. But as already said prob wont be much of a jump for you. It was for me coming from a 7800gs oc agp card :)

Gets 10k in 3dmark 05 and 5500 in 06 with overclocked opty in sig....not too bad for a poverty stricken strinking posty :)

Is that £80 without selling your current 7800gt? If you could offload that you could add another £50 or so to your budget which would bring you closer to the 8800 series.
