Toric Daily Contact Lenses?

I'm currently getting fortnightly contacts from D&A (who are crap) and have been investigating trying to switch to dailies. But it seems that none of the manufacturers even make lenses for my prescription!

I take lenses in my right eye with a power of +1.00 and an Axis of 160. Focus Dailies (Specsavers) do dailies with the right power but not the right Axis, and Acuvue do the right Axis but no plus powers!

I tried the Focus Dailies (with an Axis of something close to 160 i guess) but my right eye was really blurry so that's a no go. And of course there's no Acuvue lenses with the right power so there's no point. Gah!

Are there any others out there? Looking here there doesnt seem to be any other Toric daily lenses?

I might get in touch with them but looking at their lineup they only seem to have a choice of Acuvue or Focus Dailies for Toric Dailies :(

Are you sure Specsavers don't do them?? I've worked for them for over 10 years and never heard anything like that:confused:

Whats your prescription and I'll ask tomorrow when I'm in work:)

I cannot get dailies as they are too small a diamter for my eyes. why oh why are monthly lenses (Which are fine) a 14.4 Diamter, and Dailies either a 13.8 or a 14.2? Why dont they do them in the same sizes?

Thanks. My left eye is 'normal', but i have an astigmatism in my right eye and that's the prescription that seems to be weird:
Radius/Diameter: 14.50
Power: +1.00
Cylpower: -0.75
Axis: 160

As i said, Focus Dailies do ones with the right Power but not Axis of 160 (that's what i tried at Specsavers). Acuvue do ones with the right Axis, but they dont do +/plus powers! Apparently they will do in a few months as there is a demand, but i was wondering if there were any other brands

If you could check NeedleGunner, i'd appreciate it!

you cant get daily torics to your power. if I were you I'd wait a while, acuvue launched their daily torics last october and so far have been a great success so i don't think plus powers are going to be much longer in the making. that's the views in the optical industry.

No probs ;) But tbh I'm surprised that you've been dispensed a toric lens if you only have a .75 cyl.

Just checked on speccy website and they only do 90 and 180 axis.

Will find out tomorrow and let you know:)

Thats what both D&A and Specsavers told me. A few months it seems. But i want them now, damnit! :p

Could you explain this? I remember D&A saying when i first got contacts that i could get away with not having a Toric lens.. however i had the usual 'they feel weird in my eye' thing when i first had them so they put gave me a Toric lens. Are you saying i might be able to get away with not having a Toric lens? 'Cos that's always been in the back of my mind.. i was tempted to go to Specsavers and pretend i'd never had contacts before but that was a hassle and i think i'd have to pay. Hmn..

(Or have i totally misunderstood what you mean?)

I use fortnightly lenses at the moment. I have an astigmatism in my right eye and I don't bother with a toric lens I just wear a slighty stronger normal one. This was suggested for me by the opitcian and D&A.

No you've not misunderstood:D I have a -0.50 cyl in both eyes and wear standard contacts and have no problems. Bristish Standards state that a cyl of -0.75 you can be +/- 5 degrees off axis(IIRC) That is from a spectacle point of view with the lens being about 10/15 mm away from your cornea. With a CL being on the surface of your cornea I'd suppose that that margin of intolerence decreases. Meaning that D&A are trying to pull a fast one. Thats from a none bias point of view:p

Specsavers do a free trail on CL's if your eye test is within 2 years (although they may want you to have an eye test too)

OK, the CL Fitter at work said that you wouldnt really need to have a toric, not unless your really sensitive to the difference it makes. Which is quite unlikely.

Like you said you cant get your axis in the dailes, but you can in monthlies for £15 a month.

He'd normally just prescribe an aspheric for anything under a 1.00 cyl. You can get them for £22 for 30 pairs :)

Hope this helps.

I recently cancelled my Lenses by Post with D&A - they were absolutely shocking. They screwed up 4 out of 6 months of orders, so I was often left without lenses - the last set being 2 weeks late.

In regards to - do you really need a toric lens? well as an optometrist I would fit you with a normal lens and see how your vision was and if you weren't happy then i'd have to fit you with toric lenses. if you didn't have your astigmatism corrected, then i'd have to modify the lens power but then we are talking about compensated vision and not perfect vision.
if you want proper advice on contacts - go to an independent opticians.
what area are you in?

Did you read my post? I just said the exact same thing as you:confused:

So whats the difference in advice from the point of view of an independent and market leading optical chain? Not much apart from cost. Most staff, in any big chain opticians are well trained, have a good knowledge of optics and are generally in a better position to get CL's at a cheaper rate than most independants. Therefore passing on the discount to their patients. Common sense really. If your going to start telling me that you get a better service at an independent opticians, better advice and better lenses (either CL'S or Spec lenses) don't bother:p

Well now i'm really confused. Apologies for the late reply but i totally forgot about this thread until i went on another mission to sort my lenses out!

I've got no idea what's going on. I went into Specsavers and spoke to the CL fitter again and asked if i could try non-Toric dailies. She said with my prescription i really wouldnt be able to see anything

I went into D&A and asked for a CL check as my current lenses are a bit odd. My sight doesnt seem quite right, although i'm not sure if it's all in my head now! I'll agree with NickXX, they're bloody useless; the first appointment i can get is on the 13th!

Now i've just read my prescription card and the front of my lenses, and theyre showing different prescriptions. Argh!

Right lens:
Radius/Diameter: 14.50
Power: +1.00
Cylpower: -0.75
Axis: 160

Prescription card (right eye):
SPH: +1.50
CYL: -1.75
AXIS: 144

Is that because one is an 'eye' prescription and one is what that translates to a contact lens prescription? Now i'm wondering if [a] D&A really have messed up my lenses or I've told the Specsavers CL lady the wrong thing? But i'm sure i went in with my prescription card and my lenses..

I cannot get dailies as they are too small a diamter for my eyes. why oh why are monthly lenses (Which are fine) a 14.4 Diamter, and Dailies either a 13.8 or a 14.2? Why dont they do them in the same sizes?
0.2mm difference on a 14.4mm diameter. I doubt they can make a jelly-like contact lens that accurately to be honest, I wouldn't mind betting a 14.4mm soft lens is +/- 0.2mm as manufacturing tolerance on something that soft and stretchy. Even a change in the hydration probably makes it change diameter more than that. I used to wear 14.4 monthlies but my dailies are 14.2 jobbies, it's a tiny tiny difference on quite a big relative diameter. 1.4% difference in diameter in fact.

I have a question.

When I'm wearing glasses and driving my car it seems like i'm a good 6" higher than when I'm wearing contact lenses, where it seems like I'm really low... why's that? Same prescription afaik.
