Built my new system today and it works which is nice.
Unfortunately ocuk decided to send me windows home server instead of the 64bit vista H.P. which i asked for. In a desperate attempt to use my new pc i decided to install home server before sending the discs back (tomorrow morning) to get my vista. It worked ok except i couldnt get my native monitor resolution so i stuck *** gfx driver disc in. Chose to install the XP drivers as i thought home server was based on xp. Rebooted and now all i get after windows load is a fuzzy screen of mush.
Q: how do i sort it out? I guess a windows re install might do the job but cant seem to find out how to do this.

So now youve screwed someone up who trys to use that home server because its been regestered to your mobo and if its oem it wont work. Why did you even open it? Seems pretty stupid and now they may charge you for it because you opened it.

Thanks for your help buddy.
Annoyingly i didnt think to check the small, unobvious writing on the front of the oem sleve assuming that ocuk and their excellent service would have managed to send me what i paid for. It came this morning btw. I think an easy mistake to make during the excitement of a new build.
I havnt been online with my new build and didnt intend to untill i recieved and installed vista. So no- the home server has not been registered to my mobo.
If they try and charge me for it i'l play hell. All my new parts have come from ocuk and they have made several **** ups between the several orders. I have had products where the packaging has clearly been ripped open by someone else, they have changed an order without even consulting me, orderes have taken longer to arrive than the next day delivery they charge for and now they have sent me the completely wrong product.
Anyway, back on topic.
Can anybody help me?
Cheers :)
Chris

Unfortunately, if its opened its non-returnable. The EULA on the packet does state this. Plus, you could have copied the serial key stuck on the packet (Im not, nor would i ever infer that you have, but people have been known to do it).

Bugger.
Well.. il give them a call tomorrow and have a moan.
Thanks PhillyDee

Whatever happens with that, il still be getting vista at some point. How do i load from the optical drive to install vista before i get to the screen of mixed up pixels on home server?

Cheers :)

Yes you really shouldn't have opened it, you won't be able to get a refund on it for the reasons stated above. I ordered something from OcUK that took longer than expected, but that was because of Royal Mail, not OcUK.

Well I assume you still get the BIOS boot up screens displaying ok? That should be done through basic VGA stuff before windows and its drivers kick in.

Just make sure that you have the boot order set in BIOS to try to boot from the optical drive first, and have the Vista disc in there ready to boot from it. You should then be able to reformat your drive and install away.

PK!
