Has anyone had any experience with one?

I went to one today and registered myself after nearly 18months of searching for employment and getting nowhere. I have never felt so belittled in my life! :(

I only would like part-time work or to work from home. I very much enjoy my lesuire time, and due to living at home I can afford to only work a few hours a week, but when i asked for part time work only, the look she gave me was like I was some 3 headed monster asking for her handbag or something. I asked stritctly for computer work, not minding if its in a factory or office she didnt write it down. Then when she asked when I had finished my last job, I said nearly 18 months ago she rudely and in a sarcastic tone asked "You do actually want work then?" and then when I said I wasnt on benifits "Kicked you off did they?" again in sarcastic, nasty tone.

Feels like I've just wasted my time and energy, and now my confidence is knocked. Thanks for nothing you ice maiden bitch, I thought to myself.

Anyway, no real questions here, just wanted to vent :(

hmmm part time work from home eh??? what kind of job are you after?? are there actually any jobs out there you can do?

Part time OR working from home

atm any job that involves computers, I consider myself an all-rounder (if there is such a thing lol :p) when it comes to I.T. so something mundane as inputting data would surfice.

some are better than others, i went into one about 4 months ago signed up asking for computer work, next day i got a call telling me i had an internview later that week, went to the interview, and got the job easy peasy, shame my work pays £14 an hour for me and i only see £8 :( damn thieves!

but i was pretty easy when looking for work as didnt really have any constraints, but still they should be treating you with respect not making snide remarks at your in sarcastic tones, since if they get you a job, then you will be paying for them to have there jobs.

Quite frankly, there are three types of scum in this life; job agencies are one of them.

They are basically glorified used car salesmen except that they

a) Don't know anything about the industries/roles are are either putting people forward for
b) Are paid on commission, so unless you are an extremely saleable asset, you are not wanted / wasting their time.

They don't *care* about you *or* the companies - most businesses will turn to agencies as an absolute last ditched attempt to find someone, or alternatively for someone who is so generic that they can use you / fire you within a month.

Hate the agencies, hate the people working in the agency.

For the record, the agency I'm through atm is staffed almost exclusively by fine females.

Any excuse to walk down the road and visit them tbh...

Why haven't you worked for 18 months?

Not much work around these parts. I've been to a few interviews.. Theres just not much around here unless you're a care worker or have a trade. :(

Edit: or can drive, which i cant

I'd love to be a postie! infact Im going to ring the post office right now. Good shout! Thank you.

Did you ever think to do some volunteering part-time while you're unemployed? As things stand your gap in employment is just going to get wider and when you do get into interviews, it will make for some pretty uncomfortable explaining.

Regardless, methinks you should give the agency a wide berth if they will openly show contempt for those they are supposedly assisting into work.

"I did a mixture of voluntary work, temping work and occasional tech-support work around my local area (fixing PCs, setting up internet connections et cetera) whilst looking for the right permenant opportunity to come along."

I guess if you're an accomplished blagger that is alright, but I doubt they would just let it pass without asking further questions. Can there be many things worse* than being caught out telling blatant lies during the interview?

* - For your chances of employment

They are homes for people who have very little personal skills and cannot cut working with the general public for more than 10 minute bursts every 2 hours.
Add to that their unique matching abilities I would be very surprised if any of them could complete a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle.

i.e CV says, 1 year experience in fundamentals of SQL Server and will not relocate from Glasgow. Floods of emails arrive for senior team leader position in charge of 5 people based in Reading.

Do your own legwork, hit company sites directly, most have a portal to their recruitment pages.
