New to consoles! 360 or PS3

PS3:

+ Blu-ray
+ Wifi inbuilt
+ Free online play

- Lack of games

360

+ Plenty of games to choose from

- Poor reliability still to this day
- No Wifi inbuilt - external Wifi adaptor costs £60!
- pay £40 every one year if you want to play online

If you already have wireless in your house then it's a no brainer to get PS3.

From the OP it doesn't look like he cares about Blu-ray, he just wants to play some console games. Since the Xbox 360 has more games and a better controller and is cheaper, I'd say that's the obvious choice.

Errr no MGS4 will not be better than MGS:TEA

Made me lol. :P

MGS 1 was great.
MGS 2 is better then 1.
MGS 2 Substance is better then MGS 2
MGS 3 is better then MGS 2 Substance
MGS 3 Subsistence is better then MGS3
MGS4 will be better then MGS3.

It's simple.

It's like...
I prefer Tetris over Call of duty 4.

My 2p.

Look for games you'd both want to play then pick that console.

I think you'll find that's the 360 (I did) but it's the way to do it. :)

What he said :)
Always how I've chosen what console to buy (and I've owned numerous Nintendo, Sega, Microsoft and Sony consoles) and I've not made a mistake yet :D

Wow!

Thanks for all the replies so far ppl :)

The guy's brother has a PS3 which is why he harped on about it some much, Wii doesn't tickle me as I'd rather sit back with a controller in my hand on my sofa.!

It's looking like the 360 me thinks, is the premium the best to go for atm?

Premium would be the best value IMO and can be had for £200 if you shop around online. You should only consider the Elite for the bigger harddrive if you're interested in the Video download service that is on its way.

I bought a Core system near launch and ended up spending a hell of a lot more then I would have if I had just bought a premium (I got the Core because the premium was sold out everywhere :p)

And if you need a wireless adapter Import one from Asia, I got mine for £40 (including postage) the only difference was that the documentation was in Chinese

TBH Both are great consoles, both have there good/bad points, just look at the games youre interested in for both consoles and make your choice. If you got a good gaming PC check out to see which games on the 360/ PS3 are also on the PC as that may influence you game choice. As mentioned if you are interested in the HiDef Movie market then a PS3 makes better sense, but like i said either would be a good choice.
BTW you can always play on my PS3 as your local LOL

Not really.

imo it goes something like..

MGS1 was superb
MGS2 was a step down from MGS1
MGS2 Substinance was a slightly better version of MGS2
MGS3 was better than MGS2, but still short of MGS1
MGS3 Subsistence was a slightly better version of MGS3
MGS4... who knows??

i'd get both if i were you ,cause when the 360 is off for repair's you can play on the ps3

Yeah I suppose so, I mean he will have 12 months warranty right away so any problems can just swap it over at the shop, no need to send away, so after 12months maybe you will be right and the PS3 will have games to play :p

I decided recently to buy a 360, Mainly because I don't own a High definition TV, PS3 although fantastic, Would be wasted without the use of Bluray. For me anyways. That and mass effect put the pressure on, It's calling me, Says it wants my babies. So I had to go buy a 360 to keep it happy.

What a bizarre comment. I have wireless available and given the choice I'd never, ever use it. What if he wanted to run a cable? An Ethernet connection is always better than wireless except for the obvious 'issue' of having a wire.

Got both at the moment (might sell the PS3 soon if a good game doesn't come out soon) only time I've played the PS3 is when the XBOX360 was away for repairs.

If I could only choose one it would definitely be the 360.

The guy at work could possibly be a fanboy. Go for the Xbox 360, it's cheaper and has many more games.

O, So anyone who remotely likes the PS3 is a fanboy? :p

Go for the 360, PS3 is a great console but it just doesnt have the games at the moment.

Josh

Plenty of great games on the PS3 to keep you busy mate and plenty of promising future releases.

Have a look around online at the current games and future releases for both consoles and see which appeal to you more, remember that quite a few (but not all) 360 titles appear on the PC too, so if you have a PC the PS3 would be a nice choice to go alongside it.
