Just purchased a Shuttle SP35P2 and a Seagate Barracuda 250GB HDD from another retailer as OcUK didnt have the shuttle, and its a living hell.

The Shuttle, randomly restarts itself every 5 seconds at startup, not the companies fault, but annoying all the same.

The Hard Drive is the fun bit. Came im the post, SATA connector on the drive snapped off on arrival, meaning I cant connect my SATA cable to use the HDD. COntact the company and they say they wont replace items due to user damage (nice assumption there), I have a good go at them, not swearing ro shouting, but being very pushy. Mentining their lack of understanding the contents of the sales of goods act, and saying I will involve trading standards, the guy now was hesitating on the phone, but still refusing a return, so I ended the call and contacted Seagate directly. Now seagate said they dont cover items on the warranty that are potentially user damage. I didnt expect them to do anything as they just cover the warranty, and are not really reponsible for the state the goods arrive in, after a short pushing session I gave up with them.

Now, Ive got trading standards involved in the situation, who basically said the company didnt have a leg to stand on as the goods arrived faulty, and they are making the asumption I damaged them myself, so obviously no proof at all it was me.

Basically trading standard have said unless they can prove that the goods arrived in good working order to me, they are legally obliged to replace the goods under the sale of goods act, is that right?

Ill never ever go away from using my usual small band of sites now, even if it means waiting a month or so to get the bits.

OcUK, how about a name and shame section on the forums :p

Yes, they are right, but not for that reason.

The distance selling act says that for whatever reason, unless you have previously agreed otherwise, you can return goods bought from a distance, e.g. over the internet, within 7 days.

You don't even need a reason to return them.

Sad to hear that friend, have you sorted the problem out with the Shuttle?
Or is it a RMA job?

Sorry, i meant to say the sales of goods act.

A little off topic but I purchased a printer from an apparent well known company, I got the printer and it has no lead. Apparently this is how they are sold now? lol, so if I get a phone without a cord it is standard :S haha idiots.

Best to stick with companies you know or pay a little extra from big companies at least that way you can get an exchange/refund if it does not work, oh and they give you the lead to connect a printer (which is the proper way).

Hang on, if the lead is not supplied in the printer box, by the manufacturer, then you cant blame the retailer. This is your fault for not doing your research...surely? Or have I missed something?

Even 'big name shop' would not receive delivery from the manufacturer of the printer, open the box, insert a free printer cable and then reseal it. If bought from a 'big name shop', you would take the printer home, discover the cable isnt supplied and would then go back to the 'big name shop' and buy one separately.

If you are positive that the manufacturer did not include the cable, then you will have buy one, whether you buy from the biggest shop in the world or the tiny 1-man operation store.

I was there when he made the phone call, put it this way I wouldn't have liked to been the poor sod to have taken the call. But to even suggest that he might have broken it is quite frankly cheeky, considering the amount that he had spent in purchasing his new equipment.

Says on the box a cable is included, also on the manual so you know when you see that the assumption is you get one...

The toner was also wrapped but the safety strip was not there and the printer also smokes, am I in the wrong for that also?

This was a Samsung one, well at least now I know I have to ask if it comes with a lead. So when I get a phone I will make sure it has a battery, when I get a keyboard make sure it has a wire, etc

That's quite a change from your original story so no need to be sarcastic.

Not really, I just added that in to let you know I should not be blamed for them not specifying it has no lead.

As for the smoke issue that is seperate all together, just thought I'd throw it in anyway ^_^

Best to stick with companies you know or pay a little extra from big companies like COMPETITOR at least that way you can get an exchange/refund if it does not work, oh and they give you the lead to connect a printer (which is the proper way).

printers have been sold without data cables for about 6 years now

-don't post competitor names!
