list is a joke imo

just one example is how daft punk get on there... they havent done a dj set in over 6 years

DJmag said that list was a fake.

But if Daft Punk, BT or Gui Boratto do make it in the list then yes it is a joke. Boratto has never djed in his life and his recent mix cd was done in ableton that he even mentions in the sleevenotes.

nought wrong with ableton dj ing imo , it still takes a fair bit of work. its all about tune selection for me anyway , cudnt care less what the djs using if the music and the crowd is good

i know people say ableton djs can be "boring" but with the use of controllers and stuff its not so bad, french kid called surkin uses it and isone of the most energetic djs ive ever seen.... maybe some people are just dead set on seeing the dj bedning over reaching into his record box

It's all about how you use technology, CDJs are easier to beatmatch the vinyl, and Ableton is easier than them both, but as long as you then use that as a platform to do new stuff rather than seeing it as your job made easier I have no problem with it. Ableton is just brilliant software, being able to cut bits out of tracks you don't like, add new percussion or melody all on the fly opens up some amazing possibilities: Daft Punk obviously use this to great effect for their lightshow and things, and other DJs use it very creatively musically (Giuseppe Ottaviani springs to mind though I have to say I prefer his standard DJ sets).

I can see however what peoples problems are when certain DJs just stick a load of tracks in a row in Ableton and just do the conventional DJ thing, it might sound the same as a vinyl or CD DJ, but it's less effort and less of a performance.

suppose ive just been lucky with the ableton djs ive seen

digitalism dj set ,justice live , daft punk live , surkin , switch , all been great. thinking about it the acts ive listed are more producers than djs anyway so i cant blame them.
