I never saw the use of a students card, so even though i can get one as im an OU student, i hav'nt filled in the form at all since i just dont see any use for me to have it. Been ages since i looked, but only a few stores actully give discounts for having it, and not decent stores at that.

Generally for uni & college / 6th form students. Dunno about joining as a non-student but I do know you can get dodgy ones pretty easily (not that I do :p). Actually when I first got my NUS card legitimately back when they were free they didn't even check who I was. Just asked for a passport photo and a name.

I think a lot of shops have general student discount on any kind of student card Dist, just not really advertised unless you ask... which I normally never did as a student

NUS are a bunch of tree hugging hippies that couldn't organise their way out of a wet paper bag.

Free education??? WHY you ******* *****. Use wiki if you want free education.

5% discount on a well known website named after a river. Reason enough to get the card :)
I've saved more than the card cost me, and I can use it for another 3 years :D

One thing I never have understood is why students need discounts. I mean, I won't complain! But my student friends have more money than my employed friends - especially those with mortgages! XD

I got my card free, the University of Sheffield card is an NUS card!

And the maths in your sig is wrong. :p

Northumbria didn't pay for ours. Cost a tenner, I think >_>

How so? Area of a circle is pi times radius squared. z = radius. z = radius times radius = radius squared. Area times thickness gives volume.

NUS are crap, Southampton Uni withdrew from them years ago. Uni's pay about ~£80k in membership fees a year for a bloated union, who are as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Burnsy

Resentment of student rears its ugly head again eh? :p

There is every point in getting a NUS card if you can, 50% of high street stores give you discounts - Burtons, Virgin, purple t-shirt for a few examples
