Hi all I recently had my house burgled and one of the items on the list of damaged & stolen was my Xbox 360, I need to get this replaced so which is the best package to go for at the moment is it the Elite package ?

Bang for buck one of the Premium deals. Either get a console for £200 or a package with a few games for £250.

Only if you think you might want to use the movie or IPTV service when they're released here think about an Elite.

it's 100Mb, but this is fine for streaming HD material, the max bit rate even for insane stuff is <50Mb and most is <20Mb

What is this movie or IPTV service then ?

Thanks just thought I'd ask.

Best start sorting my music/dvd collection and start putting it onto my machine to stream! :D

And what do you guys mean by streaming music & movies ?

In the US there's a fully fledged SD/HD online movie/tv-series download service over Live! This is coming to the UK before christmas.
For IPTV think of Sky+ over the internet. MS have signed a deal with BT to start a roll out in the UK end of this year.

You can store your music/pictures/movies on a PC and have the 360 'stream' the content to your TV.

For instance all 360 games hold the music discrete to sounds so at any point you can choose to play custom music and still hear the sounds. One of the options is to stream mp3s from your PC.

So if I had a movie in the form of a avi on my PC upstairs and my Xbox360 was connected to my TV downstairs, I had the Xbox360 connected through my wirless router which is hard cabled to my PC I could watch the film downstairs on the Xbox360, how does that work do I just play the film through media player on my PC then go to my Xbox and select soemthing ?

You link the two machines using whatever software you want WMP, TVersity etc. And they you just select what you want to share on the PC, a whole folder of avi's for example, then go to your 360 and just select it from the list of playable items.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Please. ;)

That sounds very interesting, so the Xbox360 acts as a computer on the network and you can view shared files, that would save me a lot of hastle of converting avi's to DVD all the time.

Do you need a HDD TV for the HDMI cable or will the cable fit a standard scart sockett on a TV ?

Also how long as the elite edition been in our shops in the UK ?

Its for HD resolutions so you will need a HDTV to be able to use the HDMI cable.

According to Wikipedia: "The Elite was released in Europe on August 24, 2007".

:)
