triple or quad 120mm rad?

Hi All,

I am looking into building a new watercooled rig based on an old lian li PC70 case I have.

I was thinking of going the triple rad in the top of the PC70 but then I found the blackice GTX 480

After measuring up it will got in the top of the case but I need to draw on your expertise to say if the extra 120mm is worth it of not?

Also I was thinking 4x Yate loons..

Thoughts?

So far the parts list goes like this:

1x Thermochill PA120.3
3x Yate Loon D12SL-12
1x Ehiem 1250 (old pump from my first watercooling rig)
1x Swiftech Apogee GT Rev2
8x EK 3/8" High Flow Barb 1/4" thread
1x EK FC8800 8800GTX Full Cover GPU Watercooling Block
Thermaltake UV 3/8 tubing

Thanks for that, so its keeping to one big ass rad then, do you think a blackice GTX 480 would cool better than a Thermochill 120.3?

Personally I dont think it'd make much difference, you got to weigh up if the extra cooling capacity will out do the reduced flow or head or whatever :)

Thats a very good point.. as flowrate effects cooling, well its looking like a PA120.3 then for definate.

Does it really make much difference if I go for 3/8 tubing over 1/2.

Never really spotted much difference before.. although it was a long time ago I used 1/2 tubing..
 
Got some tygon meself, worth it only becaus I have a pretty small case (cm201) so its perfect for tight bends without kinks :) Worth the extra money imo.

Hmm... I think that wont be too much of a problem in the PC70 :D

Tygon may very well make the list though
 
7/16 tubing is much easier to work with than 1/2 tubing, very easy to route around the case.

From what I've read, the GTX480 would be better than the PA120.3 if you used high cfm fans, but the PA120.3 would be better with lower cfm fans.

I did a test on the GTX 480 vs. PA 120.3. The lower you run your fans, the further the PA is in front. Only with really high rpm, the GTX shows a slight advantage over the PA. Unless you want to deafen yourself when using your machine, get a PA instead of the GTX

use Masterkleer 7/16" ID (5/8" OD) PVC Tubing because its better quality tubing and it will fit very tightly over the barbs and be a lot more leak proof then 1/2
