New Opera Alpha Out!

Ah okays then. ;)

I was thinking this thread could be THE official OcUK Opera thread but perhaps a new one dedicated to the bestest westest browser ever wever would be better.

I'm working on a project with jbloggs so if I can help you out with the Opera how to then let me know.

And I would add you to MSN if I could find some hint of your MSN deets anywhere! marclister at gmail dot com. I'll go on now if you want a quick chat. Reply back here if you want to wait until a more decent hour.

Morning LeperousDust. :o :D

Thanks for tips earlier on MSN. :) Just had Opera crash on me a few times using 9.5. Something to do with the sites I'm using or something I'm trying to do I think. :(

Hattrick of posts but meh! :o

How is everyone getting on with Kestrel? I've downloaded the 9542 build from http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/.

I've noticed that when I do a search from the browser such as "g Manchester" if I type a long search string or type a lot quickly then Opera freezes and I have to wait 20 seconds at least for it to "catch up" with what I wrote and to carry out the search. Now I just tried doing a "g search term" in 9.23 and I didn't get this. Can anyone else who has the in-line searches setup and has 9.23 and a Kestrel build test this for me?

Yeah it fixed exactly the same problem for me, and wand also now remembers my passwords. Few other little fixes i can't think of right now, and general speed boost, its all good for me...

Just tested this browser, looks superb! Quite small too. Love the "Speed Dial" feature when you click the new tab button, really saves me time typing in URLs for sites I recently visit.

I've roasted IE7 on my Vista 64bit build as it's started playing up and I have moved to Opera, all great so far!

Any good add-ons and themes to recommend me??

Thanks :)

When are we likely to see Opera64?
I had to edit a load of config files for Opera a month or so back so i could use plugins with it on Vista64.

I have just switched from being a firefox fan to opera. I really like this new build I have got it setup how I normally have firefox setup. The ad-blocking is very good it blocks all the ads which ad block plus would block in firefox.

It is noticeably faster than firefox when loading up pages. I have yet to try the "links" feature but this is very good as I tend to switch between computers.

nifty features i've discovered in Opera:

Right Click (hold) + Left Click = back
Left Click (hold) + Right Click = forward
z = back
x = forward
backspace = back
Shift + z = rewind (takes you to first visited page on current URL, max back = 50 pages)
Shift + x = Fast-Forward (opposite of rewind) OR Takes you to the next logical page (might not always work)

middle click on a tab closes it.
middle click on a link opens it in a new window.

Alt + P = the advanced settings menu, which includes the GUI customisation menu. have any icon whereever you want. remove unessesary toolbars.

The Wand DOES work, but the button only works when every item on the page has loaded fully. Ctrl + Enter (return) gives instant Wand

click the bar on the left for the favorites/history menu, then click again to hide it!

Ctrl + Alt + Z = re-open last closed page

In the menu you can set it so that;
A window can have not tabs
A tab does/doesn't have the close button
Opera starts with last open pages / no pages / blank page / homepage.

you can hide/reveal the speedial whenever you want by clicking hide/reveal.

Speedial pages can be opened by pressing Ctrl + Speedial number (Ctrl + 1, etc...)

Ctrl + Tab = Like Alt + Tab in windows, but in that opera window.
Right Click (hold) + Scroll wheel brings up the Ctrl + Tab menu

thats it off the top of my head.

<edit> some more

1 (numpad or numbar) = move one tab to the Left
2 (numpad or numbar) = move one tab to the right
5 (numpad or numbar) = restore (to window within window) tab
6 (numpad or numbar) = 100% page zoom (if you're on any zoom level, press this to return to 100%)
7 (numpad or numbar) = -100% page zoom (so, if you're on 300%, and press 7, you'll be at 200%)
8 (numpad or numbar) = +100% page zoom
9 (numpad or numbar) = -10% page zoom
(minus button) = -10% page zoom
(plus button) = +10% page zoom

F3 (this is awesome) = resume last search (without search window) say you pressed Ctrl + F and searched for "the" and then closed the box, you'd have all the occurences of "the" highloghted. if you click / go to a different page, those will disappear. press F3 and you can jump down from occurence to the next. Try it out!

anyway, i've been using opera since version 7.4 (yes, i did buy it back then)
