getting rather annoyed with my cat, he has a small cut on his ear that he keeps reopening as i guess it's itchy, and then when he flicks his head to flick the saliva (sp?) off (he dribbles a lot) he flicks the blood every where, and if im playing with him he tends to rub his ears against me leaving me with lovely blood smears along my arms.

So im wondering is there any way possible to get him to stop itching it as im also worried it may get really bad forever being open and closed.

thanks

As mentioned the cone around the cats head, usually you get them from a vet but I think a pet store will do it as well.

Cut his paws off

thats actually a pretty good idea as it would also solve the problem of him cutting my belly up doing that cat comfort squeeze thing.

or his ears

thats no good as he will still itch the remaining cuts form where his ear used to be

really thats the best thing for this? thought maybe there would be like a cat plastr or something, or maybe just drug him with a load of pills until it heals itself

Lampshade is about the best way to go.

Had to get one from the vet for our cat, as he was making it really bad scratching it thinking it was just an itch.

A 'lampshade' is what would normally be used, basically a plastic cone that your vet normally gives you. Depending upon the size of your cat you will probably have to cut it down as they are pretty big by default.

If your cat wears a collar then I'd recommend getting one that fits onto the collar as they are a lot easier to work with than the other ones.

Ahh my mums cat had severe ear infection and it ate through his ear - ended up being a huge hole and he kept scratching at it

It smelt pretty rank.

Had to get one of those cones on his head and pour salt water on the ear.

He died a few weeks back :(

My cat had to wear a cone on more than one occasion. Was rather funny watching her getting through the cat flap.

The cone things are called Buster Collars and they aren't that expensive, you can get them from your local vets.

aren;t there those lampshade contraptions you stick on their heads to stop them doing that sort of stuff untill the wounds are healed up ?
