Nero won't install on Vista

Both Neros I got with my DVD drives won't install on Vista. They say I have to "upgrade" my DirectX 10 Vista to DirectX 9!? which sounds a bit silly. Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes, just install DX9 it won't affect DX10.

You could get Nero 7+ (which is perfectly good, if not better than 6 if you do a custom install).

Or... as said above try saying yes to install DX9, Windows will then stop it saying a newer one is installed, Nero might then leave it

Oh how the mighty have fallen - I remember Nero when it was efficient and just plain good at what it did (burn CDs) - what on earth does it need directx for ! Answer - the bloat that comes with it !

It is still a good piece of software just make sure you only install the burning-rom component unless you like bloat....

A full install of a recent version of Nero comes in at several gig!!!! If you just want the burning bit, there's about 20 tick-boxes you have to untick.....

Doh! Thanks for the warning. I got nailed by bloatware before when I thought I was just installing drivers for my X-Fi soundcard, but instead Creative decided to cripple my system with ridiculous amounts of superfluous rubbish. Hate the stuff. My new system will be a bloatware-free zone. I hope.

In which case, ditch Nero stick on Infrarecord and Imgburn

Ashampoo is a good alternative to the Nero "suite" though

Prassi Ones is a great all rounder for burning and creating discs, no bloat either.

Which versions of Nero do you mean as there is now an 8 ultimate?
