Here, there, everywhere.
I'm considering buying a new watch, but am not sure what I should get...

My curreny favourite is this watch:

(Mainly due to the fact it's quite low-key and hopefully won't break easily)

Details are sparse in terms of reviews/photos/opinions, as it's obviously not a mainstream make. As I know there are lots of knowledgeable watch people hovering about, I was wondering if I could ask the following questions:

1) Does anyone have an MTM watch (and obviously if you have a Blackhawk specifically I would like your thoughts), and if so, what do you think of it?

2) Is there something better I could get for a similar amount of money? I'm looked for something that will last me a little while and not keel over after a year. I quite like the style of the MTM watches (minimalist, black is prefereable).

And before anyone asks, no, I am unlikely to find myself behind enemy lines anytime soon,

If like me you prefer functional looking watches which are very easy to read and keep good time as well as being built very well, have a look at Fortis watches. I have a Spacematic GMT and it is an outstanding watch.

They're purposeful looking, built like a tank and I think they look pretty cool too

I have a blackhawk, love it too bits but definitely wasn't worth the £325 i paid for it. Worth about £150 at most.

having said that, I've worn it everyday, it's survived paintballing sessions, Leeds festival, numerous drunk nights out and all other sorts of stuff. Barely a mark on it, and the light owns people in the eyes if they **** you off.

And Jack Bauer wore it for a day..

I also have a Blackhawk, and love it to bits. Quite expensive for what it is, but as said above - you cant put a price on Jack Bauer's tastes!!

Thanks for the replies so far!

Do the people that have Blackhawks have any photos they could upload/I could see?

I would but only have my camera phone which is a bit shody to be taking photos with tbh.

If I can get my digicam back of my dad over the weekend I'll stick some up.

Didn't he have a Rolex in season 1, then they realised they could cash in on the merchandising...? :D

Actually the watch looks nice, if a little overpriced.

I like, how much did that set you back?

I thought I would bump this back up as I'm stil considering the purchase, but may be convinced to buy something else in a similar price range (up to £400).

I've yet to see anything else that is as simple/plain in style though.

Any thoughts?

This bit from the blurb bothers me

" The entire watch case and band are fabricated from solid titanium for rugged dependability"

The last thing Titanium is is rugged when used in watches, though the PVD coating may help disguise any marks

looking at the spec it is very overpriced for what it is

Hmm no ops would ever have a metal strap - plastic or leather so that it could be cut with a knife if need be and wouldn't make a noise if it hit something.
The Titanium is probably most of the expense of the watch.

Any suggestions on alternatives? Around the same sort of price/fairly plain design.

I would (if I got it) get the Heavy Duty Ballistic Strap (Velcro Type) as well, for when I was behind enemy lines (approximately never).

Titanium Chronograph, I'm itching to buy one and might be any time soon!

They're £350 but some power sellers on fleabay are selling them for arounds £180 delivered.

I've seen a few sellers on ebay with prices like that, are they not fakes? If not, how can they sell them so cheap?

Interesting, but I'm a big fan of not having to replace the battery and re-seal the watch every few years. My current watch (a fairly cheap citizen eco-drive) has been serving me for 5/6 years, without having to replace the battery.

One advantage of the MTM watch is that it recharges, and does so on a little stand, so hopefully I won't need to worry about sending it back/taking it to a jewellers any time soon.
