A new free-to-join website will allow PC games to be played on a PlayStation 3 console, the CEO behind the new venture is claiming.

Richard Faria from www.streammygame.com states his site will revolutionise the gaming industry by providing members with a free plug-in that converts games into IPTV channels called Game Streams.

The site will enable games to be played remotely by sending it over a home network to a laptop or a second PC, and the firm claims the receiving machine will play the game "without any lag and it does not need to have the game installed".

"We are embarking on a new paradigm in the gaming industry fuelled by advances in computer hardware, network speeds and the want of gamers to have more freedom," said Richard Faria CEO. "We network the power of their main PC so it can be used to play high end games on other PCs and laptops around the home. I believe the demand for high resolutions will drive the sales of high end PC hardware.

"We will release a Linux version in Q4 2007 which will enable PC games to be played on the PlayStation 3 and many other devices including DVD players, set top boxes, networked media devices and mobile phones."

Currently compatible with Windows XP and Vista, the firm claims it will work with all games based on Microsoft's DirectX8, 9 and 10, including new releases such as FIFA 08 and BioShock.

ROFL, yup, cos I have the bandwidth to stream game graphics from the net...I think this bloke is slight off in cukcold land.

So, if I'm getting this right. If I've a PC good enough to play Bioshock I'll be able to stream this to my PS3/other device to play it. Errr, why wouldn't I just play it on my PC?

My PC graphics card is a 1950pro, peak bandwidth is somewhere over 40 GB/s. My home network is 100 mb/s, The only way it would work would be to really reduce the quality of the video. Now obvioulsy I know most games won't be running at peak, but even 10% of the cards bandwidth is beyond my home network.

I guess he's looking ahead a few years to when PCs will be so powerful that you technically wouldn't need more than 1 in a house. You could have the central home super computer and dummy terminals including one sat under the TV playing your games. That sounds reasonable enough; we're just not there yet and not that close.

Looking at the site, if you want to stream at 720p or over, you need to pay a subscription fee - even if its just over your home network, although its not much.

Real world computing is moving completely in the opposite direction, with a large number of low powered, heavily networked processing units in each household.

Not needed, if you need a PC anyway and want to play in the living room you can just put the PC next to the LCD.

And streaming works fine for movies when you don't need any input but imagine playing a FPS like UT3, it just would not work.

Why don't they just make it possible to install games under Linux locally on the PS3?

lol that would be interesting

"Microsoft games for Windows, running on a PS3, installed under Linux"

lol that whole line is just one big cliché, if only we could work Nintendo into it somehow???

i would imagine the fine video is streamed, which has nothing to do with your graphics card's memory bandwidth. you can stream 1080p over a home network (albeit compressed in some form) but 30-50mb/sec should be doable on a 100mb/sec link

but surely by that time, games will use better and better graphics until a time they are photorealistic - then they can't get better. but that is a long way off.
