I have my new toys all here, thanks in large part to everyone here who has helped me. My new (nub) problem is I am afraid of my hd2900 pro.

Do I have to connect *both* power connectors?

(There is a six pin and an eight pin connector)

I have a Corsair 520w psu which has a pci-e lead with 6 points, and two hanging off it. Do I use all these points to connect to the 8 pin, and use the remaining lead to cover the 6-pin connector? Please help. I daren't switch it on.

Hi,

You're right you need to use both connectors.

Connect on 6 pin + 2 pins to the 8pin socket
Conect the other 6 pin to the 6 pin socket

They should fit easily, don't force them

Yes you need power to both sockets but the 8 pin one only needs a 6 pin connector.

The 8 pin connector only means you can overclock it in the control panel which most people don;t use for overclocking anyway (rivatuner, ati tools)

A lot of psu still don't come with a 8 pin connector for gfx cards and from memory the 8 pin connector on some psu's are for the mobo (if needed)

In fact just checked and your psu comes with 2 x 6 pin pci-e power connectors and a 8 pin power connector for the mobo. I presume it's the HX modular one as here? http://www.corsairmemory.com/products/hx.aspx

Give exact details of your model of psu to help further please

Recent Corsair HX psus come with 2 x (6 pin + 2 pin) so they can serve as 6pin or 8 pin connectors

Didn't know that and it doesn;t say that online on Corsairs website. Tut tut. You would at least think they would keep that up to date ;)

The 6 (+2) pin connector will only fit one way into the 8 pin slot.

Inserting the 6 (+2) connector in the 8 pin slot leaves a 2 pin gap at the right hand side.

It's a six pin plug with an extra 2pins attatched which can be used to make it an 8pin

You will be connecting your 6pin PCI-E and a second 6pin PCI-E converted from the 4pin molex.

It will only fit one way in the 8 pin
