Hello

I have tried to overclock my BFG 8800GTX OC slightly to squeeze a few more FPS out - at stock it is 600/1800 according to nvidia control panel. I can overclock it a little (using nvidia control panel with latest drivers - sme problem on old drivers also) and run 3DMark ok but usually when playing games for longer, the game will freeze and I will be forced to restart. This happens even on very moderate overclock - say raising it to just 615/1950 and sooner or later there will be a crash - whether hl2, bioshock or crysis demo. The card isn't overheating excessively either.

Is there anything else I can do to improve the situation or am I stuck with a card which isn't able to overclock much?

Should get more than 615MHz out of it though I would have thought. Aren't most people hitting 650MHz+ on the stock cooler?

I have BFG OC2 GTX which is factory set to 626 core, I can quite happily get 648 Core no problems, any higher and it's a case of "Computer says no"

Im unsure why you're having troubles. Maybe you got a poor chip, if thats even possible.

Always possible....For every chip which goes over 650 they will be ones which don't go much past 600.

Always a gamble overclocking

My 8800GTS OC2 wouldn't overclock for toffee... that's the problem with pre-overclocked cards, you pay more for a card that will overclockw orse out of the box than a cheaper card that will likely OC to the same speed form a lower clock.

Mine overclocks fine. Saying that though it is on water albeit with my Q6600 in the same loop. TBH I didn't try on the stock cooler.
