well were looking at all sorts but tbh im not a fan of french cars but as you can get a 3year old one for 6 grand with 20-30k on it cant be bad

i take it these will be a little go cart like the 106 gti was

does anyone know a uk based citroen tuner i could get a carbon air box/ram air from ?

any opinions greatly appreciated

No, not at all, they are wooly, understeery, nowhere near as nice to drive as the saxo/106. On the upside, the interior is built better (but looks worse), and the car as a whole is safer.

Don't expect it to be a little B-Road basher though, because quite frankly, it isn't.

This is all personal opinion from when I was looking at getting rid of my saxo VTR, and took a look at the C2 VTS when it was released.

Horrible cars (imho of course). Feel cheap and plasticy inside, not a nice place to be in.

The exterior doesnt look too bad, a friend has a VTR and it can't pull the skin from a rice pudding. The saxo (which it replaced) is so much more of a "drivers" car (if thats the word for it).

Ex's mother had a standard c2, broke down in a week. Only the fusebox, but the thing was brand new. Horrible horrible cars imho.

You can have my saxo for £5k ;)

Less than 30k miles and will hammer any hot hatch avaliable. Not too practical mind.... :p

Driven the 206 aswell yuck, at the time I had a 12 year old astra which broke down at every junction and the shocks had done about 120miles and would rather drive that than the 206.

Doesn't feel comfy the gearbox is shocking in the 1.6 anyway.

KK guys, the clio and the C2 are poles appart, different classes of cars. I had a C2 GT (110bhp manual) before I got my 172.

The C2 handles well, stops well, parks easily and costs nads all to run and insure. Even the VTS is half the insurance of the 172.

For the plus side, the C2 is cheap to run, comfortable and better driving position by miles than the 172. Hardly any rear space in the C2 though, but a great boot design.

The 172 is more cramped in the front. It is quicker, handles better, costs ££££ a lot more to run and insure and for 5-6k you will be getting an older model out of warranty which is most likely going to need a few things doing, unless you get a real goodun.

The quality of the build imo is better on the C2 although it feels more plasticy, it rattles less. The C2 vts, is not all that diff from the GT, but is a fair bit quicker, apart from that they are essentially the same. The C2 VTS doesnt tune up well either, unlike its Saxo VTS predecessor.

Reliability on both the C2 and the Clio is poor. My 172 had more warranty work done than the C2 and from being a member of both car clubs respectively, both have their common issues and faults that cropped up again and again on the forums. Most of the ones I suffered from were niggly faults, though by the time I was trading my 172 on with circa 30k on the clock it needed some fairly expensive mechanical things doing.

Best thing is take both out for a drive. You may also like to consider the Corsa 1.8 Sri which is a bit of a half way house between the 2 although I would put it closer to the 172 than the C2 VTS. Again a goodun can be picked up for 6k (2-3 years old low mileage)

The 172/182 are proper hot hatches and have the running costs associated with them.

The C2 VTS is excellent at what it does which is provide a cheap and cheap to run warm hatch (not a patch on the saxo vts for performance though)

The Fiesta ST although more expensive has pretty much stolen the C2 VTS thunder in that segment of the cheap quick/warm/nippy hatch market and I guess that is why not many are sold when you can buy a new ST cheaper than a new VTS considering the finance options and deals Ford offer on them compared to Citroens, 'we like to bend you over APRs'.

The C2 VTS doesnt tune up well either, unlike its Saxo VTS predecessor.

It's the same engine bar some bigger valves, milder cams and some diff ancilliaries. Wack some 285 degree saxo vts cams in there, induction, exhaust, remap = 160 brake.

Didn't realise it was that modable.

My mate has a C2 HDi and recently, was given a new Corsa as a company car.

He said the corsa kicks the C2 into touch on build quality and I agree with him. C2 is a 55 plate btw.

Thats not me saying get a new corsa though.

Clio 172/182's are a hoot to drive apparently but they do suffer with reliabillity issues if thraped to an inch of their lives everyday.

I personally would have a 172 over any C2 as they are better looking, you get more toys with a full fat clio and then the performance, handling bla bla bla kicks the C2 well and truly into touch.

well after taking your advise we looked at several 172's cups and standard

tonight she is the proud owner of a 52 plate 172ff with xenon's in silver 44000 miles just had all belts and full service done two weeks ago, all for £5200

i can confirm that it goes and handels like **** and put a massive :D on my face just half an hour ago
