Why's that? Or do you plan on keeping your kids in a cotton-padded box until they're 18?

My eldest two (5 and 3) have access to their own account, with restricted app. usage and website viewing privileges, and it's also time-limited so they don't spend all day on it (which they would, given half the chance). It just forms a natural part of what they do (as well as covering my house in glue and paint, etc).

mmm why? lol... jeesh =|:rolleyes: kids seem so stupid these days and that's proabably a fact 'cause parents are so stupid and they dont realise that instead of going on computers and playing video games and a ridiculously young age they should be doing other stuf like developing skills i,e reading etc.. My mums a primary school teacher and shes got a class full of morons cause theyve got parents who let em go on computers.. video games and do what ever they want.

And im 17 btw.. psychology is the win :D

I'm fairly sure most parents on here excerise some control over what their children see and do on the computer. Most of us would never leave a youngster on a computer unsupervised. my son asks before he downloads anything or goes on a new website everytime. I know, because someone is always in the room with him. And many games/sites are excellent Cbbc for one.

^^spitfire-ace - mummys boy alert. bet she comes home and moans about those little buggers everyday eh? must be the computers!!! not like a primary teacher has ever moaned about kids before. get real

Did I put she 'says' that? had to do work experience there - didnt think of that did you now? and its pretty hard to make a point without referring to something specific :)

Just make sure they use full English with correct grammar on WLM, and they should turn out fine. No txt ***.

Well i realy cant belive it (or am i showing my age)

My 5 year old girl can load up my pc run IE and goto cbbc website 95% of the time with no help

i mean omg what has the world come too

I rember being at school and having to use BBC Acorns and then just before i left school windows 3.11 (we had a network coxal one thou)

am i getting old before my time ? (me thinks yes lol)
Hehe, its good innit?
Mine is 6 (nearly 7) but she has been doing the very same thing (cbbc) since about 5. The annoying thing is, I gave her her own computer (nothing flash, just for IE, flash games, school stuff, so an xp2400 512mb of ram etc) and she is already complaining that its slow, she also knows what an upgrade is. When I upgrade my own machine the old parts generally filter down to my eldest boy, but my daughter insists that she is having them next time because she is sick of having the slowest 'poota' and its affecting her TMN time :mad:

Lol, well she doesnt understand FPS, obviously, but she knows when what she is doing slows down and that its because her computer is rubbish. She only plays TMN, but I have caught her firing up some CSS on her brothers machine when she thinks no-one will catch her. 6 is far too young for such games imo. Also, and I quote "gun games are stupid because when you shoot people they come back2 :D

and she only just turned 2

Around 1990 one of the first PC games for kids was called Putt Putt and my 2 year old was playing that with no problems.
In fact there was one part where a cow was stuck in the road and me and the wife clicked everywhere to try and move the cow.
My little un had a go and immediately pressed the car horn which moved the cow.
My little uns weren't special but it does help if that technology is in the house and then its a case of 'monkey see monkey do'.

Quite right.

I was mortified to see someone with 1998 in their name sign on to BF2! :o

Who said they go on and play computer games?

They mainly use the CBeebies website, and my son (3) can now count to ten in about 4 different languages, and knows most of the colours of the rainbow in about 5 different languages. He catches me out by mixing in foreign words when he's speaking (I only speak French and a smattering of German myself) - he also knows more words in sign language than he does verbally - he teaches me new things about language every day.

Guess that's your theory well and truly up in smoke, never mind, you're still young, there's time yet!

;)

Who say? They do. And how's my "theory" up in smoke now you just explained how your son can do all these things? reminds of those xmas letters :D Everyone knows that young kids take in more and thus its easier for them to learn languages.. thats how it should be done i guess

So your theory that kids who are "morons cause theyve(sic) got parents who let em go on computers" is valid because my kids use computers and are NOT morons?

Interesting...have you considered running for government?

;)

So do you want me to spend all day making my point ridiciosly specific? I meant children doing whatever on computers are not going to develop as well as kids that are reading.. exercising.. spending time with parents etcetc. Not hard to see it like that from what I put.

And please enlighten me, how does one 'run for government'? :D

I work with Juvenile Offenders in a Detention Centre (your age) and its my observation that its the kids who didn't have computers who are the trouble makers and instead spend all their time outside causing trouble.
I haven't played a computer game for about 20 years (Kick Off 2 on the Atari ST) but from what I can see the average game teaches a lot of skills.
Even a game as basic as FIFA 2007 still needs reading & numeracy skills and I've seen lads not being able to read a single thing on the screen and a few weeks later being able to read it.
