I was watching the latest ON THE SPOT on gamespot.com and they were playing GOW for the PC. The guy playing it said it took over an hour to install on his system (quad core, 8800 ultra).

Just thought i'd point this out as its pretty extreme for an install time.

How big is the game on your Harddrive after installing?

Company of Heroes and Opposing fronts is about just over 6GB and they took about 10-15minutes to install, felt like ages though.

I call rubbish. Doesn't take that long to decompress and copy a good few tens of gigabytes worth of data, never mind however big that will be (1-2 discs as the 360 version was 1, so probably 1.)

4GB :) ive installed much larger games, in about 10/15 minutes as well. its a weird thing, it happened to one of my clan members but none of the others. his install took 5 hours, everyone else was done in about 20 mins

System Requirements:

OS: Windows Vista or Windows XP
Processor: 2.4+ GHz Intel; 2.0+ Ghz AMD
RAM: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 12 GB free hard drive space
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600+, ATI X700+
Online Multi-player: Broadband Internet Connection, Games for Windows -- LIVE Gold Subscription

Which is good evidence of the need for more effective I/O today, processor speeds are definitely not what's holding that install back, too slow harddrives / bad architecture is. Vista is horrible I/O wise anyway.

depends on how many floppy discs it came with :D

an hr does seem a little extreme

lol:D
Maybe this will speed things up
