I cant find a proper black tie anywhere, would a very dark navy blue tie be okay? You can only really tell its blue if you inspect it.

I don't wear black for funerals full stop, so it's fine. Nobody's ever complained. People aren't there to inspect your dress.

Last time I went to a funeral I got a black tie from M&S but I would have thought that a Navy one would be fine. Its the thought and the fact that you are there that counts not really what you are wearing.

Agreed that it's more important that you attend than the colour of your tie... but personally I find it's a mark of respect and so I'd suggest getting a black tie if you can. So in a nutshell don't worry if you really can't get one, but I'd say make every effort to do so first.

Depends on the funeral, but it's quite common these days for people to be asked not to wear black to a funeral. Last funeral I went to (my Grandma), the black tie stayed at home.

As others have said, the important thing is being there, not what you're wearing (within reason). In fact, a bit of colour rarely does any harm. I'd just advise against anything red or psychadelic unless the funeral specifically calls for it.

Im sure it'll be more than fine, the fact that you will be attending will be more important than what you wear. Sorry for your loss by the way :(
4thed.

It also depends on what the funeral desscode is meant to be. My mother for example wrote into her will that she wants people to wear colourful clothes and be happy...instead of being in black and being depressed. :)

As has been said, Tesco/Asda (George) should stock loads of black ties, but drk blue would be fine. :)

Can I ask why?

I don't own any black clothes and I don't see it as "respect" to go out of my way to dress the same as everyone else due to a precedent from hundreds of years ago. I might specify in my will that black is banned actually.
