Spoil Sports...

Saw a few of these up round my sister's neighbourhood in London and thought - good. Halloween is a horrible American tradition that has no place in a civilized society. It's basically introducing the concept of extortion as a fun thing to do for kids.

I have no objection to little kids who have taken the effort to dress up etc to do trick or treating.
I used to do it myself.

What gets me  though is the obvious 15-16 year olds who knock on your door in there normal clothes saying trick or treat, I wonder where the money they make is going......

Why are you spoilsports for not wanting to be disturbed by annoying gangs of chavs every night for a fortnight ?

If you dont want anything to do with it, dont answer the door, easy enough. Thats just asking for it though lol.

Totally over the top view on something that is nothing of the sort!

Extortion?

Since when has a bit of fun and a bit of chocolate extortion?

Boring git.

Because its fun for kids to dress up and go Trick or Treating.

As for the groups of chav's, I just tell em sorry no costume no treats and close the door.

Also I don't give out money I give sweets as you are meant to.

Finally I only give out stuff on the 31st.

If the chavs are that desperate for a mini mars bar that they dress up and knock on my door then they can have one.

I don't see why a few people being annoying should spoil it for all the kids.

Also we always have a halloween/bonfire night party (mainly because my Birthday is so close to both) where the kids dress up and we have the carved Pumpkins out etc.

Its just a fun activity.

Sums it up nicely for me. I have no objection to small kids doing it, as it's just a bit of fun. However, when a gang of idiots come and egg your house because you didn't give them something, then they deserve what's coming to them.

Agreed

Since it is demanded with menace - the trick part. I don't think many old people find it "fun"

Keep your roll eyes - Lots of old people don't find anything fun, but then it's not a thing for old people is it? I'm sure that the kids don't find prunes, points of view and terry wogan fun - but then we don't expect them too.

Aww boo hoo - can't take a rolleyes but thinks it's ok for teenagers to go around terrorising old grannies

Last time I checked, prunes, points of view or Terry Wogan don't go around demanding money with menaces.

You clearly know nothing about Halloween, for a start it's an English tradition not American. It's not all about trick or treating and it's far from extortion, it's a bit of fun.

What a misery, halloween was always one of the highlights of my year as a kid. There were always idiots who tried to spoil it but that is the reason it should be more propperly organised rather than banned.

Did I say it was OK for teenagers to terrorise old grannies for money? where did I say that?

Oh wait, I didn't you just made out that I did - you are saying that /every/ person trick or treating is doing that - when in reality it is not, just a small portion that do.

You have should a jaded view on this - i've never had people demand money from me on Halloween and you are just picking up on the few stories of bad kids that appear on the news - which happens with all things, there are always a few people that ruin it for others.

Actually make a valid point before throwing round that I think that terrorising old people for money is OK - because I obviously don't think that Whoa. You had a valid point yourself until you resorted to insults. Keep them out please. Gilly.

LOL no it isn't. You can trace halloween back to its celtic/pagan roots as the Samhain festival, but that is not halloween. Halloween is a horribly commercialised event that started in America (6th most profitable day apparently!) and should not be imported over here. Guy Fawkes night is our Autumn festival.

Seems someone had a bad experience at Halloween and is now on a personal crusade.

Personally I love Halloween, its one of my favourtite times and events of the year.

Its great fun.
