"Long Way Down" : McGregor and Boorman at 9:00pm BBC2

Lots of people drop the bike on their CBT. It's called learning.

Really? I did my cbt yesterday and there was a scratch on the handle bars where it had been dropped and he said that it was pretty rare for people to drop the bikes and its only happened a handful of times whilst he has been there maybe it was just that place though

*edit although he could have been saying that so I didnt get nervous *

The majority don't, of course, but what I'm saying is if you take your CBT and you fall off for whatever reason, it doesn't necessarily have any bearing at all on whether you'll end up as a good motorcyclist or a crap one. Some people struggle for days with bike handling before it clicks, some get to grips with it in five minutes.

I would have expected perhaps for her to ride with them on the europe stages of the trip where its going to be better quality of roads and safer, then jet back to the UK but meh.

Was a decent enough programme, liked pulling wheelies going into the warehouse didnt he!

i've read the book, it was a great read, you get a bit more detailed account of things from the book, a lot more background info on all the happenings, what they were feeling etc just kinda gives you a fuller picture of the trip.
bring on the next episode, things are rolling now, the journey has begun:D

Yeah, I'm halfway through the book and would agree with that. You didnt get much sense of Charleys feelings about leaving his ill wife, or the tenseness as they were about to set off. Still, its good TV though, and I got a couple of very similar photos on my ride through Scotland:

Then I stopped at Harrogate as I couldn't be bothered with the whole 'Cape town' stretch ;) :p

Who is the annoying **** with the curly hair and eyes that look like they are going to pop out of his head?

I watched this by chance after Top Gear, very interesting program, can't wait to see them a few more miles into the journey...

Woohoo, watched this this morning, and looks like its going to be another cracking series, if you havent watched the first get the DVD's has 2 extra eps i believe, also read the book first, makes it so much better watching the series.

I cant blelieve they are even contemplating taking Ewans wife with them on part fo the journey. It looked like she couldnt even pick the bike up after she fell off and just waited for Ewan. Its just stupidlt dangerous aswell. Shes never been on a bike before and now she wants to ride for 10days across africa??

Im really enjoying this program, but at the same time, I don't want to watch because it really makes me want to learn to ride a bike, jump on an old one and just go for a trip through Europe or something. A good friend of mine also watches it, and he agrees...Im seriously worried were gonna end up trying to do a similar thing but on a smaller scale ourselves :D

Is that a bad thing? I doubt I'll ever get as far as Africa, but I'm definitely planning a few tours around Europe, the first one of course being to that particular bike factory featured today (although it'll probably end up being second or maybe third) and grabbing a Norge while I'm there ;).

No not really, but I doubt we will ever do it, which is kinda disappointing. Maybe we'll do something smaller, like a road trip to southern France or somewhere. We both just think getting on a bike and going touring sounds awesome.

Tonight's program was great anyway. Liked the bit in Rome where they were stuck in traffic.....the Italian road system is hectic to say the least :D

So why don't you?

I'm going to Romania via a ton of other places in September with my parents and my girlfriend on two bikes. I only passed my test in April. Do it :)

Don't go on an old one though, old bikes are crap, and not in the quite pleasant way that old cars are crap. They're just properly, properly crap.

This series is a bit of a let down so far. Long way round was predominantly the three bikes, whereas this has so much more footage of the cars (or mobile billboards). Actually, the reasoning is pretty clear now I've thought about it. Advertising revenue.

I hope it improves.

I think - or rather hope - that once they get more into Africa proper, the cars will disappear.

I hope they do, you're right that it's not really the same this time. But it's only two episodes in and hasn't been bad at all, so I'm not giving up on it just yet :)
