Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Official Thread

lol thought someone would pick up on that, I was mid - rant though, but it truly is an awful game imo. What worries me is this is obv there "new" engine, which is just the old one struggling with bells and whistles (no suprises why we have slowdown) and that this is the engine for PES for the next 4 years or so.

I really like it, can't comment on the pc version but I've played a bit of local MP and its brilliant. I was unsure of the dmo but the more I play it the better it gets.

Yeah sure its just a slighlty updated 6 but that doesn't bother me too much because the game was peanuts.

Never take any notice of the music, normally I have my own on anyway.

Formations and positions are much quicker to set up this time so no need to save settings. Strategies are much simlier to set up too.

I almost never watch replays anyway but that along with the lag in MP will be patched anyway.

If it wasn't for those issues I'd say its the best footie game i've played. Until then I will just play local MP.

As a general trend, it does seem to be those who have been with Pro Evo for years that are having the most trouble accepting 2008.

Certainly from my point of view it's not that I think 2008 is a terrible game, and if I played it I would probably enjoy it to a certain extent. It's just that the standard has been set so high over the years that it's possible for a generally decent game to still be nowhere near the standards set in the past.

Yeah but how much of your love for 4 is due to your experiences and time of life playing it. You have already recalled hazy days gone by when you allegedly were known as Mr Pro evo on your estate. Must have been a small estate, I reckon you must've lived in the country ;)

Your just clinging to a version you was good at :p

I've played fifa all my life, just about every version til I tried Evo last year for the first time. I couldn't believe the difference when I got used to Evo.

I just find it much more fun, but of course it's personal choice.

You're right, I'll never be as good at another version as I was only 2 or 4, it does **** me off. :p (And never mind our estate being small, I was once, albeit briefly, world no 1 on the Xbox version of Pro Evo 4)

I do see what you're saying about how it was the time I was playing it that helped me enjoy 4, but the thing is, I still play 4 today. It must be a half decent game to put up with poor graphics, terrible frame rate and outdated rosters. ;)

Co-op (local) it's by far the best footie game I've ever played, and I've played all version since the N64 version. Single player it's more difficult than 6/5/4, but in a way I think that the balance is tilted in favour of 2 player local co-op. You get punished a lot of pulling players out of position but you're much more able to punish the AI in co-op mode than in single player. The other night round at my brother's was the best evening's football we've ever had, and that was the first night of playing.

My recommendation, if you're going to get the chance to play local co-op - get it.

Anyone won any of the cups yet?

I've won three and each time have been rewarded with my right midfielder looking like he's humping two of the players on the front row during the photo shoot.

I swear they've done it on purpose. :p

Hahaha yeah they did that in the last one too. Not done any of the cups yet, just working my way though the leagues. Damn ultimate achievement. Win all the cups and all the leagues, 1000 goals and 500 games

anyone else have this on pc and find it absolutely shockingly bad? passing is VERY slow, players all run like idiots and the shooting is terrible. graphics aren't great either. this is the first pro evo i have bought for the pc so i don't know if this is normal or what. i usually get it for my ps2 but i left it at home this year. just wondering if it is just my computer really because im going to be taking it back otherwise

sorry if this has already been answered - i tried to go through all the pages but gave up on about page 6

I think you'll probably find it's the game. Unfortunately..

I have played the game a bit more and itis growing on me. The gameplay is pretty awesome imo however I hate the slow freekicks and how much it is in favour of the attacker now, my defenders seem to be too far forward when playing online.

One the lag is fixed I think I will really REALLY enjoy this online. I just hope they sort out a few of the other things, like the referees whistle at free kicks, the lag, the FPS problems at replays etc.

The music as ever is teribble. That 'Football, soccer, football, soccer' one is ridiculous. I know it doesn't really matter that much but how hard is it to pick some music that is just, well, normal, and not completely homosexual.

I am very annoyed that editted team names don't work online, I can't really see why this shouldn't be possible. I assume this means that editted kits don't work online either. As I only plan to play online (when lag is fixed) this is pretty dissapointing for me.

I play the odd game online at the moment just because I do like the gameplay, but the lag i stupidly bad in the games I have played. It also takes an age to find a game, this might be down to NAT settings or the fact hardly anyone is playing.

I am playing FIFA still because at least that game is polished. It does make you wonder what is going on at Konami/Seabass when making these games. I find it hard to believe they even tested it. If I was a reviewer, right now I would give it 4 or 5 out of 10 because it really seems like they haven't tried.

Well, roll on Wii version! :D

It is due to be out early next year. I would be surprised if it turned out better than either PS3 or 360 versions!

well i've now played a few games and...

I BLOODY LOVE IT. HUGE imporvemnt over PES 6... excellent - editing options aside, Konami have done great here... feels more and more like proper football with every game.

The speed and fluidity is excellent. Bye bye Fifa!!

Love it as well now. The master league and unlocking the stuff through the other tourney's will keep me happy until the online is fixed.

How do I buy and sell players in the Master League? This is my first pro evo game and iv started with the basic team so I can compare how I do to my housemates and I wanna buy some decent players!

, my defenders seem to be too far forward when playing online.

I am very annoyed that editted team names don't work online, .

Then move you defenders back, it takes seconds. You can also set up a quick strategy to make them drop off.

Edited teams would be silly online, everyone would have super teams.

yay, just got the long ranger achievement, scored from 42 meters or something
Nice one :) My longest is 33 so far, though I had one from around 40 or so cannon back off the crossbar with the keeper well beaten. It's all I'm trying for at the moment after I go a goal up :D
