trailer wheel problem

hi

not sure if anyone would know....but the left hand side of the trailer....the wheel has seized up....had the handbrake on at work on the trailer with a tonne of stone in the back.....the left wheel has seemed to of seized up, like the hand brake is off but seems to be still on as the wheel will not turn.

Any ideas of how to unlock it please ???? :confused:

Put some weight on it and rock it back and forth slowly?

Remove wheel.

Try to remove the drum, if you can't this is the problem, if you can it's a bearing failure.

how do i remove the drum??? it has like a round nut on so do you just use a pair of grips????

Pry the round bit off, it's just a cap.

Remove the split pin, then undo the big hexagon shaped bolt.

ok done all that

the drum seems a little stuck moving a bit but not a lot....what would you advise to do now??? the bearings are in good condition

should i take the drum off???? or would you put it all back together and ring the trailer company to get them to sort it??.....the drum only moves around about 2 inches then it gets stuck

Moves round 2 inches? Hmm, sounds like something inside the brake snapped.

Can you pull the drum off or is it stuck? Beware; if something has broke inside, the parts might just spread themselves all over the floor, and drums are fiddly.

If you aren't comfortable working with drum brakes, best leave the drum on.

yeah the drum spins around arbout 2inches the the drum seriously stick/gets stuck.....the drum wont pull off.....and cant really say im mechanically minded so in a way not sure what id be doing...i think im maybe best off putting the wheel back on and giving the place a ring......

Could be one of the pads stuck to the drum, but separate from the mechanism, that's where my money's going anyway.

i was reading on google and it sounds like you could well be spot on.....i dont really have a clue what to do lol, so i think ill leave it to the experts
